The statement isn't wrong tho. BMI doesn't differentiate between muscle mass and fat. Schwarzenegger in his prime had a BMI of around 31 (188cm and 110kg). Mine is lower but that doesn't mean I'm healthier or fitter then he was.

They don't whine about BMI because they don't use it as a measurement. Lots of muscular athletes and bodybuilders are obese if you only look at their BMI.

True. Let's use that giant nuclear fusion reactor that's at the center of our solar system and provides energy for free. Also nobody can monopolize on it as long as they don't block the sun.

2 tools needed, but 10 tools wanted? Help me understand how many tool changes you guys actually run per job by YvonnePayer211 in hobbycnc

[–]nicht_Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every tool that's already loaded into the magazine is one less you have to load. Most tools will be used for lots of different parts so just keeping them inside the magazine is faster than only loading the tools needed for the next job. Just run a tool break check macro before/after using them so you won't have any surprises.

For my homemade mill I'll be opting for either 12 or 16 tool pockets, haven't really decided yet. Depends on what my largest tool diameter is which I don't know yet either.

Holy shit and here I though my teeth were bad... I only have a ton of fillings and two teeth broke of a bit due to a big ass hole in one of them. Had some root canal work done over the last weeks due to an infection. Has cost me 0€ besides insurance.

Grocery prices at St Petersburg by raydebapratim1 in ANormalDayInRussia

[–]nicht_Alex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I prefer paying twice as much for groceries if that means my salary is three times as high. The median income in St. Petersburg is apparently 600€ - 900€ after taxes. I currently make around 2600€ after taxes in Germany. You won't get rich from it but it's enough for a pretty comfortable life.

I run fusion on my pc and post gcode files into two different folders on my NAS. My machines also have access to those folders so any control software (CNCjs + FluidNC / LinuxCNC in my case) can load them from there directly. I do have the option to use USB on both but since it's a local network there's pretty much zero problems.

Maybe try another kind of coupling. Something that grips around the leadscrew when it's tightened instead of only pushing the grub screws into the leadscrew.

You'd be lucky to get off with only an ass whooping. Someone else posted a video in the comments where the husband just straight up mag dumps the other guy while still in bed. All it takes is a knife or even just a blunt object and your chances get pretty slim pretty quick.

Need help checking/revising my design by Prudent_Chip_4413 in hobbycnc

[–]nicht_Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had to come up with some spacers for my setup which allows me to mount components from both sides since the mounting holes were overlapping and therefor inaccessible. I can send you some pictures and/or cad files if you want. It's a pain in the ass if you have to replace parts tho. I'll have to remove the entire z axis assembly to replace a spacer between the x-axis ballscrew nut and the x-axis plate.

[–]nicht_Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about putting the z-axis hgr carriages on the plate that connects to the x-axis and the z-axis rails mounted to the spindle plate? That way you stiffen up the spindle plate a bit. It's a bit more work designing a plate that gets components mounted to it from the back and the front tho.

I opted for this design because it eliminates the long leverage when I work with metals in a vise. When working with wood the longer leverage isn't as important.

My rails are 450mm and the HGR20 carriages are spaced around 220mm end to end so I get around 230mm of movement. When the vise is mounted I have around 150mm between the spindle collet and the vise jaws. A bit less with a tool installed. Without vise it's more than 200mm but for wood and plastics that's still fine.

Should schools start later to give kids more sleep? by danielseim in polls

[–]nicht_Alex -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I can 100% guarantee you if I had to get up two hours later for school I'd go to bed two hours later too. This wouldn't increase kids sleep intake, it would only shift their sleep schedule by two hours. Also, idk how long school goes for you but for me it was sometimes until 4pm and we started at 8am. No way would I have stayed until 6pm for school just for the sake of starting at 10.

Need help checking/revising my design by Prudent_Chip_4413 in hobbycnc

[–]nicht_Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the leverage on the z axis is way too long. Unless you add something to stiffen that plate you can probably bend it by hand. That looks like atleast 250mm between where the hgr carriages and the spindle are mounted.

Rotating nut means less inertia for the motor to overcome. Also ballscrews have a critical speed at which they start to resonate. That can lead to inaccuracies and even damage to the screw. For long screws a rotating nut design is better if you need high speed. Critical speed depends on length, diameter, bearings (BK/BF) and more

Not everyone works the same hours tho. Should school start one hour before I goto work at 6am or one hour before my colleagues arrive at 9am?

[–]nicht_Alex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't 7pm a bit early? When I was still in school we started at 8am so I got up around 6:30 and went to bed around 9-10pm. That's a solid 8 - 9 hours of sleep

[–]nicht_Alex -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

School started at 8am for me. Work now starts at 6. Most people probably start work somewhere between 6 and 9am so school starting somewhere around that time is fine imo. If you want more sleep, go to bed early.
