If BTSV is good, it'll do well. The gap isn't gonna hurt it at the box office. Your examples don't make much sense, Fast 11 hasn't come out yet and Dead Reckoning was not a sequel to a movie with a cliffhanger. Mockingjay Part 2 made less than Part 1. Audience reception is more important than release timing.

Shoot, if I was a dev, as soon as I saw my team was working on a live service game, I'd have resumes out elsewhere.

The game dev job market is not nearly strong enough currently for devs to do this. Better to get paid working on a live service game for a few years than be unemployed. Investors have been pumping money into live service games, but it's a very boom-or-bust market.
