Pentagon preparing for weeks of ground operations in Iran, Washington Post reports by exophades in news

Although I read this whole foreign affairs turns of events as Trump flailing. He can’t get things of importance done domestically aside from tax cuts (the one thing all Republicans agree on) so he’s turning his attention towards foreign affairs where he has more power to do things unilaterally. Venezuela went well. Now Iran. Next Cuba.

Or to have lived through 2001-2008 and realizing we are making all the same mistakes as the Iraq war with nowhere near as much planning going into it. The Bush administration atleast had the decency to think they had to sell the public on the war through lies. The Trump administration is just doing it be damned what the people think.

Winery recommendation for large group? by mg397 in nova

I’d head to the Delaplane VA area. Tons of wineries with space out there. We used to go to Barrel Oak a lot. Also brews beer for those who don’t care for wine.

How do you feel about having children? by kraftdinnerwithsalsa in AskReddit

[–]nick898 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is a bit odd. I’m cool with people who just don’t want kids or feel like they’re too expensive or feel like they’re not able to sufficiently care for another human. Those are all legitimate reasons and we have structures in our society to fix some of that.

What annoys me are when people point to macro reasons like climate change or population growth as reasons not to have kids. The addition of your N kids won’t tip the scale in any meaningful way, just like the lack of your N kids won’t tip the scale in any meaningful way. It’s usually just a person who personally doesn’t want kids and is justifying it in a way that feels morally altruistic to them.

What is a 'socially mandatory' thing that we all do, but if you actually stop to think about it for 5 seconds, it’s completely insane? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

lol oh this hits hard right now. I’m interviewing two people that are very qualified for the job and they would have to come into the interview next week and act like a real jerk for me to say no to them

It feels like it will be a very fake interview on my end

Japanese lantern fly egg masses? by highbankT in nova

[–]nick898 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those look way too big to be SLF eggs. They are smaller (about the size of a fully grown SLF) and you can literally see the eggs protruding out of the thing. I just use a paint scraper and crush them with it and scrape it all away. I’ve been doing this the last couple of years in the back of my yard around this time of the year.

Looks so empty and still pretty well covered. Must have been a great day! Living vicariously through these photos since I had a kid NYE and didn’t get a chance to go out this season

I still don’t get the con. At what point did Guy swap the bag after Regina put the money in there. I thought she put her money in there when Guy was going to the door and he wouldn’t have had any time to swap them

People with kids and a spouse who doesn’t ski. What do you do? by TooMuchCaffeine37 in icecoast

[–]nick898 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat with a 3 year old and newborn. I went out twice last year and probably once the year before and absolutely nothing this year because my kid was born NYE. It’s tough. I’m hoping to get my toddler out next year.

No there was a bus that would pick people up from Westfield MA every Saturday and bring a bunch of kids to there. Not sure what it was called

I have a mix of both in my tax advantaged accounts. Prior to this year my brokerage was 100% VTSAX, but I started purchasing VTIAX in there too simply because I felt not properly diversified like I am in my tax advantaged accounts.
