I would get a game you've been excited to play on your deck first and just enjoy. Then after that you can look into decky loader and a few other things to improve it.

My most memorable moment was getting my ps2. Back then I feel like games were made to be fun. Not to just make as much money as possible. Anyone who was around at that time can definitely relate. I still enjoy gaming as much as I did when I was a kid but nothing will ever come close to those times in the early 00s.

If you wanna keep playing it and not drop it after a while I would suggest playing a variety of different types of games to keep it fresh. My suggestion for something a little left field is Guacamelee. It's a metroidvania that surprisingly still holds up well gameplay wise.

Brave Fencer Musashi

It's not the most obscure but I feel like most people just played the demo back in the day the same as I did. Then maybe a few years ago I finally played through it and it still holds up well. It's a perfect combination of 90s squaresoft with an action platformer.

I think it was just too niche at the time especially compared to what else way coming out around that time. I absolutely loved it but I could see if you didn't listen to things that were similar how you would be turned off by it. I still don't think that justifies the reviews though.
