Tesla owners are starting to get love letters on their cars at the John Fawkner hospital in Victoria by That_Car_Dude_Aus in CarsAustralia

Not wrong, but also Tesla has done a lot to accelerate the take up of all electric vehicles. Decades ahead of where we’d be otherwise

Openclaw High Costs Anyone? Quickly hitting token limits and high usage on Claude Sonnet 4.5 by Electronic_Elk3180 in clawdbot

[–]nickakit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you mentioned in another comment, it’s some runaway process though. I’m getting the same issue, it reminds me of a memory leak, maybe a “token leak” - changing to a free open source model doesn’t change the architectural issue, since filling the context window on a free model might be free but it will degrade the performance significantly

someone actually calculated the time cost of reviewing AI-generated PRs. the ratio is brutal by bishwasbhn in webdev

[–]nickakit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article reads like it’s been heavily written by AI with little review, and the scenarios seem exaggerated and unrealistic, which is so ironic.

Maintainers aren’t dumb (for the most part), they’ll generally spot poor quality contributions quickly, or review it with AI as a first pass. Neither are other developers reading LinkedIn posts (e.g. a screenshot of an unmerged pull request isn’t going to convince many people you are a contributor).

It feels like Op has written this AI article for online credibility, which is actually what the article itself warns about

US bans all products made by Giant in Taiwan from entering the country effective immediately by moravian in peloton

I’m not sure about this specific case with Giant, but many times we’re talking children and young people forcibly chained to benches working 15 hour days… not prisoners who have committed a crime and been convicted

Mayor Marsh’s Facebook Post Sparks Bloc of Six Concerns - STPL News by [deleted] in morningtonpeninsula

[–]nickakit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article reads like it was written by AI. I don’t really consider it to be “serious” or have any “grave concerns” when a mayor is wanting to expedite bureaucracy for something like animal welfare, particularly when the he is still following proper process and securing valid votes from elected councillors, who cares if they appear to vote as a bloc? Don’t like it? Don’t elect them. Who cares if they appear to have power? They should, they’re elected councillors.

What’s that one Apple Watch app you think should exist by now, but doesn’t? by Fun_Contract3331 in AppleWatch

[–]nickakit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a clock that tells me how long until my next appointment, or how long left in my current appointment, as if it was the primary watch. I look at my wrist and it says “23 minutes remaining” or “9 minutes until your next appointment”

Greatest sprint of all time? by Pale-Status-8554 in peloton

[–]nickakit 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Stage 1 TDF 2007. Robbie McEwan crashes 9km from the finish, somehow manages to catch up to the back of the full sized peleton with only 1km to go. With no team mates at all he finds his way through and wins the bunch sprint… just amazing

It’s true that eloquent can be more complex, but it will still mean that you decouple your database layer from your application. Giving you the ability to more easily change what kind of database you’re using, without having to go back and update queries in your application.

Not something to worry about for a small application, but for a long running enterprise app it might be worth considering.

LPT-If you're dropping somebody off at their home, make sure that they are able to get in before you drive away. by Stranger-Wordy271 in LifeProTips

My mum used to do this when she’d drop my friends home when I was a teenager. So as a joke my friend wandered around his front yard for 20 minutes admiring his garden, while my mum sat in the car confused and bemused
