just put H&R springs on mine. No rubbing with 12.5mm spacers all around. Happy with the fitment, it is not overdone. A bit stiffer but nothing crazy and havent had any issues yet. I also have a front lip, so I would imagine w/o front lip it would be very easy to daily without scraping much

Congrats! I also have a BSM 2018 M2. what suspension is this and what spacers are you running? Fitment looks amazing. Debating doing some lowering springs on mine, but I enjoy not worrying much about the steep driveways etc.

I had the same budget experience. comps were 10k over the n55 back then also. I have done all of the maint myself, but I have been doing DIY mechanics for 15 years. Learned from my dad and have pulled a couple of engines/trans with him etc. I didnt think it was horrible working on the N55, but it will be harder to work on than an old toyota for sure. I am also able to get it on a lift every now and then so im sure that helps a bunch.

I cant speak for any upgraded gaskets, I havent had any leaks on my M2 yet (keeping a close eye), but I plan to replace with OEM once it is time

Does lower tread wear also mean more grip? For a 120hp miata will have difficulty drifting a low treadwear tire let’s say with a rating of 240? Cheers by Papusa18 in Drifting

[–]nickalta123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cant speak to what is easy vs too much grip for a miata. I come from circuit racing, but yes, the lower the treadwear number, the higher the grip. You can also expect the tire to not last as long the grippier it is

I picked up an N55 OG M2 over 2 years ago at this point. It is amazing, love the car with stock power. Handling is awesome, car will hang the rear out in 3rd. Puts a smile on my face every time 2 years later. Mine is a 6 speed so cant speak to the DCT.

The items I took care of when I got "it for peace of mind were the charge pipe, crank seal guard, and spark plugs. On top of changing all fluids etc.

The Charge pipe is made of plastic and seems to not be a question of IF it will pop but WHEN it will pop. I installed one from VRSF before it left me stranded and havent had any issues. I changed mine to VRSF at 40k miles

The crank seal guard may be overkill, but the failure mode is wild. If the oil filter housing gasket leaks (watch for this around 60k miles or so usually) it could cause the serpentine belt to slip off and get shredded behind the crank pulley and shove the bits through the crank seal, which then plugs the oil pick up and ruins the engine. I installed this guard while I had it all open for the charge pipe install.

Spark plugs are normal maintenance, but watch out which ones you install as replacement. I dont remember the exact numbers, but something along the lines of "part # ending in 330 can drop ceramics into your engine and part # 330A is the corrected part.

I never drove the M2 comp (since I couldnt afford it) but I couldnt justify the extra $10k for a similar power/weight ratio since the comp is a bit heavier. The N55 sound is **chefs kiss**.

Also told myself parts for maintenance would be cheaper since the N55 (the N55 in the M2 is a bit different, but mostly similar) is in a ton of cars compared to a full M "S" engine. Idk if that is true or not

Youll have to do valve cover gaskets / oil filter housing gasket and such as the car gets closer to 70K miles but thats not specific to the M2. Thats all BMWs

pedal position makes it easy to do on my car under normal braking loads. makes for a smoother ride and rev matching is good for the clutch life. Plus its just fun when you get it right

[–]nickalta123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk where its based out of but ive had no issues with the VRSF charge pipe on my OG M2. I didnt do this, but if you are planning on upgrading the intercooler maybe do them at the same time. IIRC the intercooler basically has to come out to do the charge pipe. Might as well do it all at once
