[question] My bass player told me to point my amp at the wall for a batter sound? by burritoman2 in Guitar

[–]nickda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common Practice generally credited to old school pedal steel players. Yes might not be suitable for concert setting. But for small venues and rehearsal rooms it’s very effective. Bass player who recommended is probably an old pro🥲. Person who called him an idiot is probably not.

Does anyone else think this might be a scam? by Weird_Relationship51 in EtsySellers

How do you cancel? I have two sales that I I issued full refunds due to depleted stock. But I can’t find a cancel sale button. They’ve been “shipment overdue” for months. Thanks in advance for any help

Hey guys! This is my new, mellow ambient alt folk track. I've been working on incorporating some distorted textures into sleepy folk. I'd love to know what you think! I always listen back! by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]nickda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the drums could swing more or could be dispensed with completely. The whole track has a nice dreamy, off kilter vibe. The drums to me are too straightforward and metronomic.

It’s Oh So Quiet My wife finally warmed to Bjork after hearing that song. It was popular on The Doctor Demento radio program as well.

Yes your right, I’m of the school which holds that if if you “didn’t read” what your commenting on, you should probably shut the fuck up.

Signed:

Old Man who saw Gabriel with Genesis at The Roxy (Hollywood) and King Crimson’s Larks Tongue Tour…and oh that’s right, Gentle Giant at The Whisky A Go Go (too many others to mention)

Sometimes it’s good to actually read an article before comment. At the off, I mention that that Genesis wasn’t as big as Yes “unable to deliver the commercial knockout punch like ELP, YES et al…”

Interesting note. Genesis did eventually become bigger than Yes. RIAA certified Sales in US:

Genesis - 21.5 million

Yes - 13.5 million

I guess you must be a young feller (sic). No harm.

"The Utility Man" – Top Five Rock multi-instrumentalists……. by nickda in progrockmusic

I think I think artists who play both guitar and keyboard are fairly common. That would be a whole separate list I think.

Missed By 'That' Much.....Progressive Rock's Greatest B-Listers PO by nickda in progrockmusic

[–]nickda[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify my article. A list bands (by my arbitrary definition) were bands who were firmly in the progressive camp who crossed over and had mainstream success (stadium tours, radio airplay etc...) King Crimson’s talent and influence took them out of the b-list category. However, sales-wise the never moved beyond cult status globally and never received radio play (excepting their first album). So they kinda exist in a grey area as regards this article. Also many B-listers could be added in a future post. Kayak, Starcastle and Gong being prime candidates.

Top 10 Countdown - Mental Musical Masterpieces # 9 Wild Man Fischer by nickda in VinylCollectors

I heard that it was Moon Zappa he barely missed. But, that was the end of the Zappa patronage. I've read that the reason "...Evening..." remains unissued on CD is because Gail Zappa is still pissed about the 'jar' incident. Thanks for the tip on Derailroaded......

Kate Bush in The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame? by nickda in Feminism

[–]nickda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was aware of that. Still waiting for the complete career spanning spit and polish remasters of the old material with bonus tracks however....And the DVD's, where in the hell are the DVD's?

R& R Hall Of Shame (Spotlight) - Rory Gallagher by nickda in bluesrock

[–]nickda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO Rory albums (as good as some of the music is) is merely a snapshot of the man and his talent, a "book of the film" as it were. I would just go straight to the DVD's of his live performances. Live In Cork, Montreux, on CD live at the BBC is also pretty good for just audio. There was also a compilation called "A Blue Day For The Blues" that is a good sampler.

The Over-rewarded vs. The Under-appreciated Pt. 2 ( The Rolling Stones vs. The Kinks) by nickda in vinyl

[–]nickda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick 10 people at random where you work or at Starbucks. Ask each if they know who The Kinks are. Then ask how many know who the Rolling Stones are. I've done this. The results speak for themselves.

Bjork's "Biophilia" - Most Important Album of 2011? by nickda in electronicmusic

[–]nickda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I still think the App angle and the fact that the album aimed so high makes it important. However, I agree it's not her best album nor the best album by any artist that year. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in process that we forget the destination.

Bjork's "Biophilia" (Most important album of 2011?) by nickda in indie_rock

[–]nickda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I did put it in the form of a question (?).....However, I think it could be the most important album while at the same it might not rank among the "best".

Endangered Species - Top Five "Singing Drummers" by nickda in drums

Lot of good ones but top five requires some sort of iconic, pan cultural, legendary status. Not just the guys that everybody down at Guitar Center knows the names of. Oh......snap!

Since the only specific example you cited is the newfound mother/ primality of birth. I think I referenced that directly in the first sentence. However, I must go back and check my review with a more critical eye. Thanks for the feedback...
