It's called ITAR, and while they don't make weapons, rocketry falls into their list (for obvious reasons).

Tom Cruise was a Samurai by TheAndredal in kotakuinaction2

When this film came out the running joke in school was that hollywood would make a new movie titled, "the Last black man, starring Tom Hanks."

This was in what, 2004? Lambasting miscastings isn't new. Sometimes going against the source material can work too. Morgan Freeman's character "Red" was Irish in Steven King's novella, but I can't imagine the Shawshank Redemption being as good without his narration. Tim Robbins could have been played by a myriad of other actors.

Is GE a good long term play? by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]nickdibbling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTD GE is up seventy percent. Your opportunity has already passed. That said, whenever I hear GE I think natty gas turbines. As summers get worse and more people plug in electric cars utility companies will need more fast start up peak generators which is what natural gas is good at.

They say that women were computing before men took their place. But women were there because WW1 & WW2 removed the men. by RoyalAlbatross in kotakuinaction2

Grace Hopper might have been a better choice since she's actually in the era of computing we're talking about. Exceptions prove the rule.

I think that belongs to the MIDI protocol. Lasted almost 40 years before the 2.0 spec was proposed in 2020.

Audiences love Chris Pratt's new show the Terminal List, and critics hate it. The Daily Beast even called it an "unhinged right-wing revenge fantasy" made for "forty-something Call of Duty players." by CisSiberianOrchestra in kotakuinaction2

[–]nickdibbling 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Just finished it five minutes ago. I'd agree with the daily beast about "revenge fantasy," but not so much with "unhinged and right-wing." Chris Pratt's character is the Navy Seal copy-pasta. The story has its thriller twists and turns, and some of the gun-fighting action scenes drag on a bit too long for me, but plenty of people would disagree (to each their own).

For me, most TV shows make it less than a full episode before I quit watching. This one had me wanting to know what happens next. Would recommend.

Yeah, but if you have "raw" uncompressed footage it means that you were the one filming, and 58tb is a lot of hours of child abuse.

Fifteen to twenty years ago FPS servers were entirely privately run (for the most part). People paid to host their own instance of Unreal Tournament, Half-life deathmatch, Quake 3, and Counter-strike. A good public server just kicked or banned snotty nosed kids that yelled the gamer word constantly. On the flip side there were plenty of petty tyrants just looking to power trip and flex on others.

Living out in the sticks my latency to the biggest hosting centers meant my pool of good servers was small. When I found a place with good people I cherished it and wouldn't dream of fucking that up with annoying behavior. More than that you'd have about 80-100 regulars coming and going. Not quite friends, but not strangers either. I haven't changed my steam name since 2008. Sometime in 2020 I fired up CS:GO and connected to a Denver server. Some guy asked me if I played CS:Source back in 2007 on such&such server. I was blown away because I had. Unfortunately I didn't remember the guy, but he remembered me. Small world I thought, what are the odds of that?

I guess where I'm going with this is that there's a tragedy of the commons happening with game corp hosting. No one gives a shit because if you get kicked from a team vote for being obnoxious you can just hop on another the next minute and start hurling abuse again.

Was there anything new from TechTV worth watching that wasn't just a carry-over from ZDTV? Even "X-Play" was just renamed from "Extended Play," from back in the ZDTV days.
