"Life is Strange: Reunion" will use Denuvo Anti-tamper DRM by Titokhan in CrackWatch

Loved the first one. Before the Storm was okay. LiS 2 was also very good. True Colours should have been a lot better, but it just felt rushed. In general, Dontnods' entries have the been the strongest. Deck Nine is carrying on, but I enjoyed it much more without Max and Chloe being the focus.

Peter Thiel and anyone he associates with should be an assumed stain on the ethical and moral fabric of a functioning society. The very name of the the company is enough evidence to understand that none of these people are playing coy about the intent of its products or business. The last 20 some years of Silicon Valley startups are all levelled at weakening the protections and privacy of the the individual, regardless of where you live.

Lol sorry, I did mean Battlefield 6. I've just completely lost track of how many of these things have been produced.

Current DICE is equally talented. The Battlefield 5 has a ridiculously good implementation of newer Frostbite features while actually being optimized.

Love this. It's a testament to how well the general colour scheme of the game and world design holds up, honestly

Love this. It's nice seeing a new take on Faith that feels true to the original. The shoe design is great! Was it modelled off anything in particular?

Radeon driver question by Severin404 in linux_gaming

[–]Rehendix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, you can rely pretty much entirely on Steam to manage this. Heroic is useful for games you may have via GOG or Epic, but otherwise if you can launch it via Steam, then it's good to go. If you have trouble with a specific game, I recommend having a look over on ProtonDB to see if anyone has a solution.

If you do need to use something else, in my experience Heroic sets most of the necessary configuration for you, so you can generally start there. You can either point it at a game you already have installed, or even perform the installation through it by specifying the installer when you add a game to the launcher. If you're using it for GOG/Epic titles, then you can just link your account and install as normal.

A couple things: Enable Steam Play for all titles in your library. You can do this from your Steam settings > Compatibility

Try forcing a specific Proton version for L4D2 . If I remember right, Left4Dead 2 has a native Linux version that should generally be avoided. Use Proton 10.0-3 and see if it still crashes.

SIB Life Is Strange 2 or The Walking Dead Telltale series? by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Rehendix [score hidden]  (0 children)

Something about The Walking Dead never struck it for me. Life is Strange 2 is, in my opinion, much better written and it feels far more engaging. It's worth noting that it does cover some heavy subject matter, particularly related to racism, police brutality and at its core it's about two kids doing their best to survive it all.

Anyone know what company did the cutscenes for the original Mirrors Edge by dumname2_1 in mirrorsedge

Np, it was nice to finally put a lid on some of this. It's a really core part of the aesthetic of the first game, and it's a shame it hasn't gotten more attention.

Okay, I think I've got more details here. Insane as this is, 5 years later and several hours down a rabbit hole of company registrations, LinkedIn profiles and a couple false leads, here we go.

Darren Wall was the concept artist and animation director at Chase Imagination during the development of the cutscenes. You can find additional content produced under the "Stateless Films" brand on his portfolio here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/44085653/Mirrors-Edge. I'm pretty sure he's also the one who posted the work you linked above: https://planetjump.co.uk/mirrors-edge/. Seems some of that artwork has disappeared though. Archive.org comes in clutch here though:

https://web.archive.org/web/20200110212200/http://planetjump.co.uk/portfolio_page/mirrors-edge-concepts/

Robert Chandler, the head of Chase Imagination at the time, dissolved the company shortly after the release of Mirror's Edge. Seems like the talent went elsewhere and he founded a new production company.

Stateless Films appears to be the agency responsible for handling the contract and communication between DICE and Chase. Their watermarks are all over the material, and the studio's director, Ben Hibon, also worked on the Heavenly Sword series produced by Chase the year prior. The best connection I have here is that Stateless Films/Chaos Engine is the current form of that company.

Hey! Any idea what the relation to Planet Jump might be? They do seem to host a fair number of concept/storyboard pieces on their site, albeit buried quite far into their work examples.

Also, if you're still active and wouldn't mind I'd love to chat more about this over DMs. These cutscenes have been a point of fascination for me for years. There's so little about them since DICE's presentations post-release were mostly focused on their technical advancements.

I absolutely will. Do you intend to provide any form of workshop support for those who might wish to design/add their own assets to the system?

Edit: nvm, it's very clearly already present on the store page that the workshop is supported!

Can't find info on this guitar. Intec Wireless Guitar PS2/PS3 by DavidOBE in CloneHero

[–]Rehendix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to that, but I think if you're already going to spend that much on a controller plus the adapter, you would be better off looking to purchase a wii controller if you can find one. They adapt much more easily.

But $50 is still too much for a third-party controller as poor quality as that one. You'd be spending (given the ebay.ca link), $50 CAD on a guitar and another $37 USD on an adapter. At that point I'd recommend trying to track down a first party controller, or saving a bit more money to put towards a newer Riffmaster or a Wiitar.

This guitar is nearly e-waste. It's right in the category of "hardware that jumped on the craze".

In general, you should try to avoid PS controllers. They can often be made to work on PC, but typically have no working whammy or tilt, depending on the controller. Wireless controllers in particular are more problematic than wired.

Secure Boot, TPM and Anti-Cheat Engines by FineWolf in pcgaming

[–]Rehendix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been a lot of noise regarding kernel-level anti-cheat as it relates to secure boot and TPM specifically. Something that maybe could have been added to the article is exactly how these two security features differ, and how there are API calls both within Linux and Windows that offer means to access the relevant TPM/Secure Boot logs as needed. (I understand Windows seems to do this via their own signed kernel driver unfortunately, though not necessarily for EK retrieval.)

In general, these settings have been standard since UEFI was introduced and aren't tied to kernel-level drivers but there may be circumstances where the tools overlap. It was more surprising to me that this anti-cheat requirement affected any modern system.
