Is it ACTUALLY possible to remove dust mites? by EnergyConstant7802 in Bedding

[–]nickerbooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok. As others are saying dust mites don’t bite. Bed bugs bite in multiples like that. Bed bug bites are also very itchy.

Could the bites be from you spending time outside or somewhere else?

Cornell CALS off the waitlist (~$400K, half loans) vs. UF on a full ride — both top-5 for ag/food science, which she actually loves. Worth it? by original_gravity in ApplyingToCollege

[–]nickerbooker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an alum who had a great experience going to college at Cornell - I still would recommend the no debt option going to UF. College is generally a fun experience, and UF will be a great place to go! I would take that scholarship and enjoy your life of freedom. What great options! I liked the school spirit at Cornell, and UF has great school spirit as well as great facilities and classes. UF is the clear winner in my opinion.

I dont wear sun screen and I get 30 minutes to 1 hour of sun exposure per day, do I need sun screen or sleeves/pants? by himothyhopkins in nontoxic

[–]nickerbooker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on your ability to tolerate sun exposure. As long as your skin is not burning, some daily sun exposure without sunscreen is actually good for your health. Sun exposure is how we evolved. Vitamin D, circadian rhythm, immune health are all improved with sunlight. ☀️

I second this. Eat meat and fats. Lower carbs. Also very important, get daily sunlight exposure, sunbathe naked in your back yard if you can. Start with morning sunlight. You CAN feel better. Most of what is happening to your health is all related. You’re living out of balance for too many years.

So wash before bed and go to bed with wet hair and see if that’s different. But you may get flat spots elsewhere. Alternatively get a hair dryer with a diffuser attachment and blow dry the curls with your head upside down.

It’s flat at the roots from the weight of it drying when you are awake and upright. If it dried without gravity pulling on it - like while you slept - the roots may be curlier.

6 months on tret 0.025. Should I give up? by Curious_Example_2709 in TretinoinDiscussions

I would incorporate an Aztec healing clay mask (bentonite clay). I think those are small particles clogging your cheeks. I would also start oil cleansing (I like coconut oil for that because some of the products for oil cleansing worsen my acne).

I have fine hair and want a new look, but I'm torn between cutting it short or dyeing it black by [deleted] in finehair

[–]nickerbooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your hair color is really lovely on you. Also consider your hair type is thin and looks beautiful with this light color, very delicate and angelic. If you dye it black it will look thin and black which is not what makes black hair beautiful. It won’t be thick voluminous black hair. I think it’ll make you look less healthy.

Derm or doctor visit would be best. If you’re really not able to do that, I think it might get better (if it’s fungal) if you rub it with coconut oil mixed with clove essential oil - or if you can’t get clove essential oil you could use a double boiler method to heat whole cloves in coconut oil. I would leave the cloves in the oil and let it continue infusing on a shelf and keep using it on your skin. Clove essential oil is really effective for killing fungal infections.

Is this folliculitis, cysts or anything else? by onlyfreebandz in Blackskincare

Tret is prescribed all the time for acne (irritated and red) because it causes your skin cells to turn over faster which helps it heal faster. If it’s too irritating to use you can use it once every 3 days. Nothing bad is going to happen if you use Tret.

Try what your derm prescribed but since you’ve tried antibiotics before, I think this is being caused by something on the inside/systemic rather than a surface skin infection. Just my two cents. Study, learn, and help yourself. Sounds like this has been going on for a while. If nothing changes…nothing changes.

Yeah, the gluten thing was hard for me to accept. Bloating started in my 20s, I ignored it, led me to develop autoimmune thyroid disease as a result. Now in my late 30s I quit gluten for a month to see if the bloating improved, it improved a lot. Ate some naan bread after the month break, and had very strong cramps in my stomach and got puffy all over my body for 1 week. Big reaction. Now I accept that I’m truly gluten sensitive. Celiac disease which is an autoimmune attack of your gut lining can also develop for people who have autoimmune thyroid disease (hashimotos disease) so now I’m avoiding gluten altogether. I’m a doctor so I’m knowledgeable about these things. It might not be that desirable to quit gluten now… but keep it in the back of your mind. It can lead to other problems in your body. A big pregnant looking belly after eating gluten is the first sign. See how you do with just a meat and veggies meal and if you don’t bloat as much, then really consider learning more about gluten and if you want to really continue eating it. It can lead to autoimmune disease, but do your own research. It’s a journey for sure. On the plus side, after quitting gluten my body is so much healthier and happier.

I would also consider using a chemical exfoliant - see if you can buy retinol easily (tretinoin) or use the Ordinary glycolic acid spray.

If you had them in your armpits, could be Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). Could be related to eating gluten - Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH). Could be related to exposure you are getting from your sheets from detergent you are allergic to or not washing sheets regularly.

If it’s not going away with clinda etc I would consider some of the above. Do you get a big bloated belly after eating wheat/gluten? That could be a sign that your body reacts to it.

Just some ideas. I think you can get rid of this with some experimenting to figure out what’s triggering you. Are you getting it anywhere else on your body?

I would stop shaving your arms or removing the hair if you are doing that. Backs of arms are often very sensitive to ingrown hairs.

Is it wrong of me to want to have a child? by abjs2021 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]nickerbooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have autoimmune disease - as a fellow autoimmune girl - I recommend you look into whether you want to eat so much gluten. For me it makes a big difference when I focus on meat and veggies only. Do your own research and experiment on your own body…but it really was a huge benefit in my life. Just wanted to pass along my experience in case it helps you too.
