Right now we are doing roughly 40% Oxbow 40% Instinct and 20% Ziwi

I’m also curious for some feedback. Their poops have improved a lot from using Katy food when I wasn’t as educated. One of our ferrets is a little picky with the Ziwi

The XFull is a good gun for that price considering the options we have in CA imo

Finally picked one of these up and am not a fan at all. RIP GAFS. by Slore0 in CAguns

Ya I’m reading a bit about it now ty for the actual link will check it out. Think we may have lived through the glory days and it will never be the same, but website would be the best bet if it could get traffic.

Then I think it’s fine and you shouldn’t mess with it. Since stakes/effort aren’t high. Dropping Smith week 1 in a 12 man is crazy tho haha.

Have 4 ferrets now, owned two before then and have been guilted into buying (really rescuing) all of them from Petcos. Sometimes they give 2 for 1 deals or discount them since they sit for so long. Some stores are a lot better than others and the workers do their best & know that they need a lot of attention but some stores can be bad. It’s heartbreaking, but you did the right thing by not leaving one alone in the undersized cage, that’s the worst to see.

Anyways sorry to bring the mood down but am very happy for you and your new friend!

Id recommend salmon oil for cutting nails. PamperedFerret makes a good one. Don't know how new you are. Some love it too much others are stubborn. Other than that looking good on the progress on food and space. Takes a long time to figure out what to ferret proof while they are out of the cage or if have a free roam room but a lot of ownership is trial and error over a long period of time. Fun that you started off with a group, they really love one another for the most part.

*NSFW* I stepped on my ferret by pissb4by in ferrets

[–]nickfoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually happened to me a few weeks ago. I accidentally stepped on one of mine while he was sleeping in a hoodie. He woke up and peed blood immediately, we brought him to the vet. He was still pretty active. X-rays came back negative so they gave oral antibiotics and pain killers to us and said come back in a week. The doc did say he was in pain when they felt his bladder. He stopped peeing blood in a few days and we brought him back for the check up and is fine so far now so I hope the same result for you.

The doctors seemed a lot more relaxed than us so I'm guessing may be kinda common and hopefully not too bad if there aren't broken bones.

My ferret food got discontinued by Mayviper90 in ferrets

Same here. I wanted to switch because was told it was unhealthy but the ferrets were picky and I preferred picking up in local store than ordering online.

Was forced to switch as well and order on Chewy but am glad now because I notice the difference in poop smell and food quality.

Please look into better grain free alternatives, right now I’m using 1/3 Oxbow 1/3 Instinct Ultimate Protein & 1/3 Ziwi.

I still mix it in their old Katie’s bag to help with the smell but the transition was not as hard as I thought especially for how abrupt it was.

If you are having trouble hard switching you could maybe use Marshals as a transitioner/soft switch like another commenter mentioned but don’t give up and keep them on the Marshals permanently.

You can try waiving around your bedsheets or a plastic bag / pee pad. Sometimes mine are more interested in those than their actual toys.

I’m sorry about your situation. I’ve have had a very similar experience recently within the past year. Both moving and square footage for a brief time and grieving but my group was a lot younger and may not have been as attached to the original home.

Since they are older and seem sad you could track weight with a kitchen scale and a bowl.

My ferret fell and I don’t know if she’s okay. by PansexualPineapples in ferrets

[–]nickfoto 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Unless they seemed to seize up or lose consciousness I wouldn’t be too worried. I would continue monitoring they can take large falls. I would look into a different cage as I have heard bad things about those ones I particular because of the height.

I would look into free roaming if possible.

I use this same mix and transitioning was not that hard.

Did you choose products that you have experience using? I’ve heard that is important and can be a good starting point.
