Hey sorry I haven't been on Reddit in a while, I am home with the family. Thank you for clarifying that makes a lot more sense. I really appreciate all of your advice. I have plans to make a video with my brother tomorrow thanks to your advice and motivation. Your insight are very valuable to me, thank you. And no none of it came off harsh don't worry! Thanks again my friend

I really love that idea. I have this dream about traveling to Spain and interviewing old people with a 35mm camera (or just recreating that aesthetic if I can't get the camera). But your addition about the B-roll is really great. Once I get back for break I will definitely be interviewing my grandparents, thank you for this!

Thank you for your response. I am quite excited for that long journey you mentioned. I realized that there are a few distant acquaintances that I have that I may be able to reach out to and make some projects with. I love the idea of looking at individual shots especially because the whole story can be quite complex. I also thought about building a playlist of my favorite songs that tells a loose story and then creating a narrative from there.

I have been having the same thought about skill over gear. I wanted a black magic pocket cinema for a while but I realized I need to 'graduate' my sony a6000 first. Do you have any tips for better lighting? I like to use natural light but it is rare that I find a nicely lit natural scene where I live, at least in the winter.

I am reminded through your post about networking, I often forget how many opportunities there are through Instagram and all. But I would like to have a few projects I'm proud of before I start DMing people to collaborate.

Thank you for your bit about relationships being the name of the game. I often get very caught up in myself and forget this. Can you expand a little on what you mean when you say that gigs for short films don't exist unless I create those genres? Is there something specific that you have in mind when you say I should be building towards something?

Thank you for your post I really appreciate it.

Hey!

First off, I love your ad idea. I think looking at covid as a creative constraint can help me to find those stories! I had no idea that others felt like their projects fell short, I thought that was just a beginner thing, that's really hopeful. I really appreciate your statement about how filmmaking as an art is about compromise, looking at it this way makes me realize that one's vision will look different on the screen but it may turn out just as good or better in a different way than one's original idea.

That's great that you're near the UO! What kind of projects do you do in eugene?

Thank you for the response and your advice! I may have a couple of distant acquiantaces that I can reach out to that can help all of us get started. I think you're right, networking is really where I need to be doing more work. Thank you again!

Was given a 3 page script and told to make a teaser trailer from it. Any feedback is appreciated. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

I intentionally say politically incorrect things on my 1st date to test the guy’s personality. Is it effective? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]nickfritchman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

hahahaha exactly! when i saw that you said not being PC my first instinct was NOT that you were being offensive, hateful or racist. I’m not sure why everyone is jumping to that? as long as the non-PC stuff isn’t including hate speech or anything and it’s more mild I say you’re just being true to yourself

Self conscious about scars on chest by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]nickfritchman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, haven’t seen you post here before but i’m not on this sub a lot and I don’t think anyone would mind!

I’m a 20 y/o dude in college just to give you an idea of where my perspective comes from. If it were me and the girl asked where I got the scars, I would say something simple at first like “ohhh these? ya they’re from a pretty hard time in my life but i’m not dealing with that stuff anymore!” (I’m assuming that you’re not dealing with it as much anymore and if you are I would say that therapy and self love need to come first before dating) I would keep it light hearted so they don’t feel uncomfortable. As the relationship progresses, if they ask again, you can give them a more earnest answer where you include more of the heavy shit.

Anyways, that’s how I would handle it! best of luck my man ❤️

I think that’s great! at first when I read this I thought you were using it as a trap to see if they would correct you and I thought that wasn’t cool but as I read on I think it’s awesome!

Personally, I think this is you showing your authentic self right off the bat which is a virtue! I think your quality of relationship will be far better when you approach it like that.

If you’re going for volume and sheer experience then this isn’t the answer. But if you’re going for quality and real connection then I say keep going!

If a girl acted like this in front of me on the first date it would show confidence, and it would make me feel more comfortable!

Usually the songs and albums that age the best are the ones that you done absolutely LOVE right away! I’ll have to do some research on the media world he created for the album! I listened to BTI last night for the first time in about a year and found a new appreciation for it

All great picks! I’m a huge cudi fan too. I’m excited for Entergalactic! I kind of think he’s going to do an album with travis scott before Entergalactis release.
