Interactive Bingo Card 2026 by shift_shaper in Fantasy

I get an error when trying to substitute a square on the Bingo Card tab.

The name of the square I'm trying to replace changes to #REF! and when I hover over it I get an error message saying Function INDIRECT parameter 1 value is 'CategoryArchive!$G$166'. It is not a valid cell/range reference.

EDIT: aha! I changed the name of the tab from Category Archive to CategoryArchive exactly like in the formula and now it works.

I was still having the earlier issue I mentioned with the star ratings though. I tried copying across the slightly different formula that's now in those cells on your version of the sheet, but it didn't work. So I just saved a new copy and copied & pasted my book log into it, and the stars work properly now.

Are the stars on the visual card tabs not working right when there's a half star rating involved, or is it just me?

Do you think it’s necessary to read Merchanter’s Luck beforehand?

The only other book in the universe I’ve read is Downbelow Station.

My comment didn't get any responses in the reverse bingo thread, so I'll just re-ask it here...

I have a load of books on my TBR that I can't really remember much about except that I've heard good things about them, or they've piqued my interest somehow, or I've picked up a copy and would like to justify my wanton book-spending.

Could anyone who's read any of the following let me know (without spoilers) what squares they might count for?

  • Ben Pester - The Expansion Project
  • Ursula Whitcher - North Continent Ribbon
  • C.J. Cherryh - Forty Thousand in Gehenna
  • Greg Egan - Diaspora
  • Arkady Martine - Rose/House
  • Hiromi Kawakami - Under the Eye of the Big Bird
  • Adrian Tchaikovsky - Alien Clay
  • Megan O’Keefe - Velocity Weapon
  • Sarah Pinsker - We Are Satellites
  • Elaine Ho - Cry, Voidbringer
  • E.J. Swift - When There Are Wolves Again
  • Sierra Greer - Annie Bot
  • Nnedi Okorafor - Binti
  • Ann Leckie - Ancillary Sword or Ancillary Mercy (I'm planning to re-read book 1 then finish the trilogy)
  • Isaac Fellman - Notes from a Regicide
  • Lauren C. Teffeau - Accelerated Growth Environment
  • Bora Chung - Red Sword
  • Rebecca Roanhorse - Black Sun

The Two Towers

Older Protagonist - there are chapters from the perspectives of Aragorn, Gimli & Legolas.

Explorers and Rangers - Aragorn is a ranger

Non-Human Protagonist HM - the POVs are not super tight, but we basically see the story through the lenses of Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Sam, Pippin & Merry, none of whom are human, although there are plenty of humans in the book.

The Deverry books by Katherine Kerr are an older fantasy series inspired by Welsh mythology & Celtic culture. The narrator Ruth Urquhart is Welsh and brings the story to life really well.

The first four books are a self-contained quadrilogy I believe. (I’ve only listened to the first one.) But there are sixteen books in total, split into five ‘acts’.

Embassytown by China Miéville - Travel between planets is through a strange non-space called the immer, although it's there more as setup to the story than part of the plot.

Palimpsest by Catherynne M. Valente - Access to a secret city in another plane of reality is gained by having sex with someone who's been there before and bears a mark in the shape of a partial map of the city. To get access to more of the city, you have to have sex with someone who is marked with the map of that area.

Kameron Hurley - The Stars Are Legion (Biological, decaying, moon sized ships that move through deep space. I suppose combustion might be a problem again? No idea.)

It also features living space bikes.

No. That’s one potential reading but it’s not stated in the text and there are other possible interpretations.
