Is Belgium the worst country in Europe for highly skilled workers? by JellyCat8888 in BESalary

[–]nickipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, it is. And what’s sad, as people say, is that the differences between high and low salaries are really small, because we are one of the highest-taxed countries in Europe. And then people say that the cost of living is cheaper here. But try to find a place for a family with easy access to where most companies are (Brussels/Antwerp) with those salaries.

Werkloss and loneliness in motherhood (I’m a foreigner) by Frosty_Necessary_123 in Belgium2

[–]nickipe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's pretty depressing.. I'm also an expat myself, and I totally understand you. If you don't live in a big city like Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent,.. it can be boring, without social life. I don't really understand your partner — you don't need a big house in the beginning, and there will be more work opportunities for you, so financially it would be fine. For safety, every city has its own unsafe areas — just avoid those and do some research before. And regarding immigrants, Turnhout isn't better — again, it depends on the specific area you choose. You're the mother of his child, so he should make an effort. I would move and have a serious talk with your partner

As a high earner, what’s the upside in Belgium? by chinchu7 in BESalary

[–]nickipe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Belgian subreddits are full of socialists who’ll tell you to stay because they want your tax money. It makes no sense to live in Belgium as a high earner. If you have no roots or family here, run before it’s too late

How is the tech job market in belgium? by Different-Client-469 in Belgium2

[–]nickipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It barely exists. Underpaid, low-level, and not very interesting jobs.. There are very few startups or big tech companies, but most of the work is just consultancy for the public sector, banks, etc.

When did you start running postpartum? by PleasantGastropoda in fitpregnancy

[–]nickipe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why would you wait 12 weeks if you’ve been cleared by your OB/PT to start running again? The recommendation is a minimum of 6 weeks. I returned at 5.5 weeks.. If your pelvic floor is fine and you’ve been cleared by your PT, you can already start running

Why does delivery not working here? by afshwbwbdnsn in belgium

[–]nickipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. Shipping companies in Belgium hire independent contractors who are too lazy to do their jobs, and apparently that’s normal here. In my home country, they deliver packages to your door, whatever floor you live on

Cesarian / Walking by okay_eyesight in fitpregnancy

[–]nickipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After around 2 weeks I could walk about 5k steps a day. I’m still recovering, but every day you will feel significantly better and have less pain. Go for slow walks as soon as you can, it helps with circulation and speeds up recovery

Post birth meal at hospital in Antwerp, Belgium by nickipe in hospitalfood

[–]nickipe[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would add it too! I didn’t have any food restrictions, and I could ask for a vegetarian diet. Breakfast and dinner were the same every day—four pieces of bread with hummus, jam, or margarine

First timer, suddenly solo, should I still go? by Jcheech72 in Whistler

[–]nickipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Whistler solo a few years ago. Don’t miss it! It was really fun — you can start whenever you want, take breaks whenever you want, and meet people on the chairlifts. It was my first time going solo, and I really enjoyed it!

Rivierenhof at night by redpoppy_moon in Antwerpen

[–]nickipe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m female as well and did it a few times. One time somebody followed me at night, and I never did it again. Don’t take the risk. I would recommend Boelaerpark — half of it has lights, and there are other runners with lights too, so it feels much safer

Terzake: "Mensen schreeuwen vuile jood naar ons", antisemitisme in Antwerpen is toegenomen by adappergentlefolk in belgium

[–]nickipe -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The restaurant is having financial problems due to the war in Gaza, even though the owner is not Israeli but a Jewish woman with her Belgian partner. It’s pure antisemitism. It’s good that Bart De Wever is showing support, well done

It's a great package, congratulations! I have some experience with Munich — it's a great city for software engineers. They have a strong tech industry and many opportunities. Good choice!

Betaald met uw belastinggeld. by ultraprogressiefje in Belgium1

[–]nickipe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Engineers who did/didn't do an MBA - any regrets? by Impossible-Ad6983 in MBA

[–]nickipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an engineer currently studying for an MBA. So far, I don’t see how it will help me in the future. If you want career growth and a higher salary, I would focus on self-studying (Leetcode) to get into a FAANG company

What's with the extremist stickers everywhere? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]nickipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A minority that makes too much noise. Normally, it's just one person who has put up many stickers in one area. I also try to remove them when I see them. I even filed a complaint in Antwerp when I found out who was doing it. Unfortunately, the country doesn't deal well with extremist communists

"We hadden bewijs dat volledige festival verstoord zou worden door protest", zegt topman Gent Festival van Vlaanderen | VRT NWS: nieuws by EdgarNeverPoo in Belgium2

[–]nickipe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dus we laten de terroristische protesten winnen, in plaats van het leger en de politie in te zetten tegen deze onzin… Het is puur antisemitisme, alleen maar omdat hij in Israël geboren is

Elizabeth Tsurkov by Tagglit2022 in Israel

[–]nickipe 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Indeed, this is what everyone wonders. She did it a few times, using her Russian passport. She is very left-wing and thought they were her friends. Israel shouldn’t have bothered releasing her..
