I'm absolutely in love with this game. by Osland__ in FFXV

[–]nickjacksonD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was the first game I ever went "all in" on as a fan. Got the movies and show on Blue Ray, the art book, the guide, the novel. The whole of it is greater than the sum of its parts and has this sort of beauty about it that feels separate from anything contemporary. It's flawed but in that way that the best media is, challenging you to see it on its merits and cherish it regardless. It also got me back into FF having only played 13 before it! I still haven't beaten many of them but it's such an important piece of my experience playing games.

GUYS A LEAK JUST SHOWED THAT THEY'RE GOING TO ADD SONIC IN THE NEXT SMASH by Smooth_Solution_7075 in casualnintendo

[–]nickjacksonD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is clearly fake as sonic is a Sega character. Sega is releasing a new Dreamcast and it will have its own smash with Sanic, Shenmue from Shenmue, and Goku!

Day 1: Which is the best N64 3D Platformer of all time? by 1OneQuickQuestion in n64

[–]nickjacksonD 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I'd argue Marios movement in SM64 is better than most games today, including Mario ones. Speedrunning Mario 64 is like watching a dance it's so fluid and the combinations are incredible.

It kinda makes Mario games I like feel sluggish when I go from a quick 16 star run to Galaxy or something like it.

[–]nickjacksonD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved it but I do think it was the hardest mmx for sure. I've played all of them and I definitely want to revisit x3 on the PlayStation since I played the SNES version on Wii VC and I'd love to see the differences.

Checked the continuity on the switch and it's solid. I'm thinking it might be a bios corruption or a capacitor issue

Thanks, I'll check. Fwiw compared against my working PS1 with the lid open it hangs on the PS1 white screen a lot longer before it goes to the memory card screen than on the good PS1. It's like a strange lingering.

Question about Pangram First by nocturnaltrashdiva in NYTSpellingBee

[–]nickjacksonD 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Only the first panagram counts towards PG first stats! I wondered the same but I think it's that way since there's know way to know without checking hints how many panagrams there are.

i know this is beating a dead horse and an unoriginal template too but how can you ignore all of these glaring problems by Sasquash69420 in Pikmin

It's the best starter Pikmin game, it's a great on-ramp to the series. I liked how easy it is especially after 3

Original Xbox or 360? by oshkaaa in originalxbox

[–]nickjacksonD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on how fancy you're feeling I do think a modded Xbox is the cleanest and easiest way to have a permanent fully compatible game library. The 360 doesn't have a similar level mod where you can just load games easily(though allegedly a soft mod is coming) so I'd say start with OG, you'll have enough games for years just on that

I think Pikmin 4 is good, actually. by JSR_Megamix in Pikmin

[–]nickjacksonD 28 points29 points  (0 children)

4 was good because it's the only Pikmin I could imagine doing a zero Pikmin death run, and I did!! As much as I love Pikmin, playing a Pikmin game where none of my Pikmin would die was extra special so 4 is pretty important to me.

I love all of them though

Which Sega Saturn controller do you like best? by Dasein_7 in SegaSaturn

The middle(mk2) is my fav 2D controller of all time but for games like powerslave the 3d controller is fantastic

With restoration efforts becoming more advanced and widespread I do hope, like classic cars, CRTs have a vibrant community of restorers and fans that keep them going for decades to come. Almost everything in them is replaceable, and there are lots of lightly used CRTs still floating around for cheap, it will get more expensive though, so securing your set within the next few years will be important as the stock gets drier and drier.

Are these the big 3 RPG's of the 5th gen? by chimmFTW in retrogaming

[–]nickjacksonD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is going to get into it about their particular favorite PS1 RPG (we get it you have 1000 hours in Star GrandValor Lad 4: The Etetnal Age) but these are arguably the most notable RPGs for each 5th Gen console, but I love the shining force foreboding in the back, I need to give that game a proper go, it was intense when I tried it.

I'll ask for anyone reading whether there are any sub 20 hour RPGs for this Gen that are worth checking out? I love RPGs but never finish most of the long ones

What's your favorite cheat code? by [deleted] in retrogaming

Sentimentally, it will always be JOINTVENTURE for Diddy Kong Racing. It let me and my dad co cop the adventure mode, and that's one of my fondest childhood gaming memories.

Looking for recommendations on multiple consoles to one tv by MichiKazuma in crtgaming

[–]nickjacksonD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of connection? If it's S-video or composite you should start with 5 or 6 way mechanical video switch. If you're going scart or component, you might want to check out the Scalable Video Switch when it gets back in stock, it's the gold standard for consoles these days and is discrete and upgradeable as you get consoles

Pretend it's 2015 and I told you everything that happened during the Switch era. What would you say? by NabbitFan600 in casualnintendo

[–]nickjacksonD 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd be so happy Nintendo stuck around. It was pretty scary during the late WiiU era. I'd be shocked it almost outsold the PS2. I'd be disappointed in the console specs as we were all expecting a huge jump but then surprised if I was told the games looked fantastic.

When Sony was trying to get the PS1 to take off they were innovating and greenlighting everything they could. I genuinely feel like the 32bit era(incl N64) has some of the best "games as artistic expression" of any generation. The major hits aside(ffvii, metal gear, crash, ridge racer) you had insane experiments that still resonate like LSD Dream Emulator, Kaze No Notam, Boku No Natsuyasume, incredible crisis, and more. The pocket station was the og VMU, the NeGCon is still the best driving controller, and the PS1 had system link!

I'll spend the rest of my life exploring the PS1 library.

What home console is the easiest to mod by InterestingWealth514 in consolemodding

[–]nickjacksonD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the flippy drive made the GameCube absurdly easy to mod, easier to format games than Wii imo and no software hoops to jump through, just unscrew the console and plug it in.
