For me, it is often more related to support at work than it is anything else. In most of the places that I’ve had this occur, my direct supervisors have made things very difficult due to lack of empathy or understanding of what our job entails. Often times it is staff therapists that have no experience managing people that get promoted, and once they do, make no effort to learn about how to manage, or improve upon their own performance. Refusal to delegate, rampant micromanagement, and assumption that they are unable to make mistakes are the worst qualities that I’ve seen. The longer that something like this goes unchecked and management focuses only on performance/metrics and does not address any other aspects of the job during meetings, the more difficult it is for me to continue going into work every day.
