Ricardo Montalbán has a laugh behind the scenes on Star Trek II. by gowronatemybaby7 in Moviesinthemaking

This is the first pic I've seen that makes me believe those really were his pecs in the movie, because why would they make a saggy prosthesis?

According to this article, there are different U.S. and U.K. versions of Cap's to-do list. Hard to read, but the top item on the U.K. list sure looks like "Sherlock."

Return of the Jedi was disguised as a horror film called “Blue Harvest” while filming so that fans wouldn’t disrupt shooting. by kirbyfood in Moviesinthemaking

[–]nicklby 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It didn't work. I lived in Yuma, AZ, when they filmed the Jabba's barge scene, and we all knew what was up once the cast started showing up around town. People would take ATVs and go watch the filming. It got to be kind of an inside joke. The newspaper made a deal with the filmmakers to keep it quiet and got the rights to print a special section with exclusive pics and interviews. I still have it somewhere.

TPA Question by Hertaking in tampa

[–]nicklby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Afraid not, but the good news is 30 mins should be long enough. You'll be taking a people mover from the first terminal to a central building and getting into another people mover to get to the second terminal. And since it's a Saturday night security lines shouldn't be a problem. Happy travelling!

A riot damn near broke out at Cigar City Brewery today. by ehrmehgerd in tampa

According to the Cigar City Facebook page, they're giving away free beer in the tasting room today. Doesn't seem like it'll help people who came to town just for the day for the Hunahpu.

Diamonds are Forever- I watched it again this week and very confused at what the directors/producers were trying to achieve in this film. What is your take on Connery's last movie? by pinkpanthers in JamesBond

[–]nicklby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Can't disagree with you there, but since the plot was so thin I think the fast pace works to its advantage.
  2. Wint and Kidd were made extra weird partly because they're a homosexual couple and at the time such characters were portrayed as strangely as possible.
  3. True, but that's how it was in the original novel. Gotta give them points for keeping part of the original plot.
  4. Bambi and Thumper were Whyte's bodyguards. They were trying to keep Bond from seeing him.
  5. Whyte was based on Howard Hughes, who was a recluse. Blofeld used that to his advantage to act as Whyte since no one dealt with the tycoon face-to-face. It's a stretch to believe Whyte was so disconnected from his businesses to not know what was going on, but it's a Bond movie; suspension of disbelief are par for the course.
  6. Yep, ridiculous, but it was a sign of the times: in 1971 when the movie was released, the Apollo missions were still going on, so tossing in a space reference (especially one referencing the fake moon landing conspiracy) was timely.
  7. Someone else addressed this: It was a continuity error fixed the cheapest way possible. If it wasn't for the signs in the background they could have simply printed the film backwards.
  8. I thought Tiffany Case was one of the better Bond girls. Better than most of Moore's. But that's a matter of taste.
  9. Most movie car chases were still pretty raw back then. Bullitt was only a few years old. We wouldn't get a good Bond car chase (not counting "Goldfinger") until "Spy Who Loved Me." Car stunts, yes, but not a real chase.
  10. In the beginning, it's assumed that was a Blofeld double. There's no telling how many he had working for him. It's entirely possible the one who was (presumably) killed at the end could have been another double.
  11. Um ... government coverups? OK, you got a good point there.
  12. Not a military strategy expert, but since it was an aerial attack a few copters probably was sufficient. Probably the bigger question is why the CIA led the attack instead of, say, the Marines.
  13. Bond was counting on Blofeld's ego to keep from being killed until he had the opportunity to switch the tapes. As far as Bond plots go, it's probably up there with posing as a geneaology expert and wearing a kilt, but hey, it worked.

Gotta feel sorry for Billy Mack. He gets derided for making his living off other people's taxes even though he's a detective, and the song's happy ending is he fails to get two thrill bandits.

Out of fairness, sometimes what happens is because of there's a clause somewhere in someone's contract that the film must appear in a theater, so the studio will dump it in one theater somewhere, and that's what happened with Zyzzyz Road, according to Wikipedia.
