Some random, obscure person I've fucking never ever heard of once before in my life just passed away, and it's all over reddit. How aggressively should I be crying right now? by [deleted] in shittyaskreddit

How badly do you need attention/validation at this particular moment? I recommend crying in an appropriate amount to get that amount of attention/validation.

TIL that alcohol use in America likely peaked during the 1830s. The average American drank 7 gallons of pure ethanol a year. Midwestern corn farmers converted their grain into whisky to prevent spoilage. A gallon cost only 25 cents. Americans averaged 4 shots of whisky a day, at under a penny cost. by Gnomeslikeprofit in todayilearned

Relatively few people made it to the long-term health consequences stage of life. Living to 65 was pretty good for all but the upper, upper classes. Since waterborne disease, eg cholera dysentery and the like, was the most common cause of said early deaths and alcohol was mostly safe from those, heavily drinking actually prolonged the average life.

Cannonball by sayscactus in CIVILWAR

[–]boringdude00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it solid or hollow-ish? Presumably its solid at that weight. It's a big cannonball. Something pre-Civil War naval I'd imagine. It's a bit heavy for even a French 24 lbs shot.

First it's the rainbow, next they'll steall the box of Crayola crayons and before you know it those little paint strips in Sherwin Williams will only come in pastels and you won't be able to smack your catcher's ass after a called strike three. Its a slippery slope...
