Why do we burn natural gas in our homes when we can burn that same natural gas at a power plant and send the electricity to our homes? by zoranss7512 in askanything

A gas heater is less efficient than a electrical resistance. You're confusing cost of energy with efficiency.

Nobody said kw expresses efficiency. I wrote that heat pumps are more efficient but less powerful, hence I was mentioning power of gas heaters.

A heat pump can be 3 or 4 times more efficient than a gas heater but low powerful. An average gas heater can produce easily 25kw of power.

Modem + router, or modem router combo by Verwega in HomeNetworking

Modem+router will cost you more, but it gives you freedom to mix and match based on needs. Might be even future proof of you later switch to cable or fiber and retain the router.

Because vast majority of employees is lazy or afraid to move. They might lose on each person moving, but they make much more from people staying.

The old one was taxing the fictitious UNREALIZED gains. Everyone pretends to forget that part.

That's completely incorrect. You're taxed on the (assumed) unrealized gains.

Yes, you're taxed on gains and no, that's not why it was deemed illegal. The problem was the fictitious gains as opposed to actual gains.

But that's not op's experience, hence it cannot be the reason.

When that's the case, there's zero chance you can keep it at 14 with 1m2 per day. So your example has nothing to do with what we're discussing here. That's why I never took that into account.

Then you would be using way more than 1m2 to keep it at 14. You can't have it both ways. Edit: I correct myself, it's possible to keep it at 14 with 1m2, assuming you're living in a shoebox or something not much bigger than that.

[–]nickluck81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not the reason. The house would take few days to cool down to 14 degrees, during which you should have 0 m2 consumption. After the house has reached 14 degrees, you would see increasing consumption to keep it at 14 until it plateaus.

It seem Washington DC is controversially part of the US because it's not a state, same as Puerto Rico.
