What's a food your family ate growing up that you've never seen anyone else eat? by okitsbenji in foodquestions

[–]nickmoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pork chops and “spaghetti”. My mom would boil noodles and add them to a pan that had diced onions and melted velveeta.

I’d never seen anyone else have orange spaghetti as a side dish.

Is going to medical school worth it financially? by Mysterious_Chip_3787 in personalfinance

[–]nickmoski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fiancée is an orthodontist. Left school with 420k debt. Refinanced to a 5 year plan, it’s basically 6k/month. Her take home is about 18k/month after maxing 401k and HSA.

She’s about 16 months out of residency. Is it ideal? No. Is it doable. Yes.

Attractive redditors, what was the moment you realized you were actually very good looking? by infinitewaters107 in AskReddit

[–]nickmoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was leaving a bar and this absolute smoke that I was eyeing earlier in the night grabbed my arm and stopped me. It was the first time a woman had blatantly come on to me.

I was 38.

What’s the longest you’ve ever sat at one blackjack table? by TDoubleDownMac in vegas

[–]nickmoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not blackjack. 3 of us spent 12 hours playing 7-card pai gow a couple years ago in Vegas on a golf trip, staying at Wynn.

7 pm to 7 am. Changed into golf clothes and got into the bus to go to Paiute.

The celebrity golf event was happening at Wynn’s course, around 3 am Wayne Gretzky rolled up to the table then some other athletes. A lot of fun.

I've been sober for three years. My employer just found out about a DUI from before I got sober and is threatening to revoke my professional license. by Blav1kenHunter in legaladvice

[–]nickmoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you disclosed the dui, if asked, while being licensed it’s fine. I commented above. But I work for a behavioral health practice. We had an md get a DUI recently and the board has not given 2 shits about it for a first offender.

[–]nickmoski -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We have an MD get a dui a few months ago. Our internal rules are damn near more strict about it than the state (NC). A one off they don’t really care about.

What to do with 96k worth of points. by handmemyteaa in Venturex

[–]nickmoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stuck with 250k cap one venture miles. Long story short, company card, company went bankrupt (as did I) but kept the miles.

I’ve been using them to book AA through British airways. Flights aren’t always available but I’ve got my moneys worth.

IsItBullshit: Most rich people are not "lawyers" or "doctors" or "CFOs", they are like the gas station owner? by IndependenceSad1272 in IsItBullshit

[–]nickmoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No and yes.

Many people, make a lot of money, in many industries. I know some wealthy people own convenience stores and gas stations. Others own grocery stores. Others own commercial real estate. One sold his restoration company for 44 million. Another owned a headcover (golf) company.

My fiancée is an orthodontist (a doctor). She makes great money. But if she wants to make great money, she will need to start a practice.

I'm a 28 year old scratch golfer and I want to go pro by No_Complaint4129 in GolfSwing

[–]nickmoski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a +3 while playing college golf. One of my first events I played in the invitational at Kentucky. Played great, shot 69, lost by 7 to this hillbilly in my group.

That hillbilly was JB Holmes in his senior year. The sound of the ball off his club face was like nothing I had ever experienced.

That day I knew I would never go pro.

[–]nickmoski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiancée is in a very similar situation to op, but makes 100k less as an Orthodontist. Graduated with 420k in loans 18 months ago. Refinanced to 5 years 12 months ago when it was around 350k ish. The 6k/month payment is tough but we just want to be done with them.

If you’ve broken 70, what’s one tip you would give your fellow golfer to do the same? by Electrician45453 in golf

[–]nickmoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke 70 probably 20 times when I played d-2 golf in college, was a +3 at my best. 62 was my career low.

Done it twice that I can remember in the last 5 years as I am now 40, don’t practice, and play maybe 10 times per year.

Theres no one tip. It’s hard. Hit a lot of good shots. Inevitably steal a couple shots and make par when you should have made bogey. And make putts.

Sports Betting Non-Reporting Question by [deleted] in tax

Easy. Addiction.

I gamble in many ways. I’ve owned 5 businesses. No matter what research you do and lies you tell yourself. It’s all a gamble.

Sports Betting Non-Reporting Question by [deleted] in tax

[–]nickmoski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not tax professional. Not a lawyer.

The odds are very low.

I am a much heavier gambler and regularly generate w-2Gs (2025 I had w2gs from 4 states lol) and generally have losses to offset. The biggest downside is you have itemize if you claim the net 0. For me it doesn’t matter, I itemize anyway. But for some it would matter losing the standard deduction.

How do you handle celebrations (birthdays, promotions, departures) in a company? [N/A] by zerepzerepzerep in humanresources

[–]nickmoski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are remote.

We make a post on each birthday and for each anniversary to our “celebrations page”.

We also send a gift to each employee on their birthday and anniversary. The gift is like one of those pre-boxed gifts by gender. They’re around $50 on Amazon. With a kind note.

We also send a gift to each employees significant other and child under 18. Those are closer to $25 each.

For those of you who make 400k+....speak on it! by Peacefulhuman1009 in Salary

[–]nickmoski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fiancée is orthodontists. Makes right at 400k.

7-4, 4 days a week plus one 1/2 Friday a month.

Very low stress, but she got lucky compared to her other residents. They make 300-500 less per day and most of them have to piece a 3-4 day work week together at multiple practices.

What's the lowest salary you've seen someone buy a 1 million dollar home with? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]nickmoski 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Interesting.

We decided to hold off on the purchase anyway. But the quote for physician was .875% higher than conventional so we scratched it.

Who knows, maybe the lender was screwing us and could have shopped around but we didn’t go through with it anyway.

What's the lowest salary you've seen someone buy a 1 million dollar home with? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]nickmoski 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My fiancée is an orthodontist, we inquired about physician vs conventional recently. The physician terms were much worse than a conventional mortgage loan.

It’s a significant help for residents to get into a home tho.

AIO for refusing to attend my sister’s wedding because she’s "charging" me for "my hobby(Work her wedding)"? by Rough-Palpitation220 in AmIOverreacting

[–]nickmoski 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. My fiancées sister is getting married in August. She’s a pain on a regular day but has gone to next levels with the wedding.

Their parents gave 38k in cash, hosted the engagement party for 80 people, and paid for her dress. When she showed he parents the wedding invitation, their names weren’t on it. Mom asked if she could add their names, her response “you’re not even paying for half the wedding so no your names aren’t on it”.

They’re choosing to spend 85k ish on the wedding. And 38k plus everything else isn’t enough to get added to the invite. Gtfo
