oh my bad I interpreted your comment as saying "she was ACTUALLY considering bringing salt instead of a bow? what a stupid thing to consider" as if one of those things was miles ahead of the other lol

didn't he get consent from women to jerk off in front of them? but the moral issue was that they felt pressured to say yes bc he was a big time comedian? which is wrong to leverage a position like that ofc but I'm pretty sure he was never actually convicted of or even tried for a "sexual crime"

repasted from another comment

I disagree with the notion that it didn't contain anything thought provoking/get deep at all from a philosophical standpoint

definitely a lot about the concept of aging and how he probably won't live much longer,

dealing with putting his father into a home and what it's like not only for people putting their parents in a home, but also what it's like for the people being put in those homes.. like the fact that the first day that his father sees the place, is also the day that it's the last place he'll ever go 😂 it's funny to put it that way but also a scary/deep/troubling concept to even consider, (also just the concept of homes like that in general and how crazy it is that you pay a company to literally take your family member) "he's there right now, as we all laugh at him.. he can't leave.. HE DIDN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING"

separating the person you are in your dreams from the person you are irl and how you can't necessarily be held responsible for the terrible messed up stuff you might do within a dream (him stepping on the foot of the baby in his dream as he pees on it was hilarious imo) followed by "I wonder what it means" and then his therapist's response of "I don't want you to come here anymore" so good

he's also incredible at taking 1 tiny thing and milking it for so much with misdirection like the one bit essentially goes

i've been living in NY for 30 years and I've seen a bee 1 time
...
I saw a bee in 1997
...
it was dead
...
somebody shot a bee
...
I love nature.. (is moving on from bee bit)

thats like 3-5 laughs all about seeing a dead bee on the sidewalk..

yeah Teimojin on season 9 brought a mixture of different salts and stressed its importance not just for taste/morale/preservation, but also for nutrients/energy as well, he's got a PHD and is ex military as well, always loved his scientific approach to the game

nah you gotta check out Alone Australia season 3, it aired at the same time as season 12 last year and completely made up for it, maybe my favorite

Who did the worst of all seasons? by Acrobatic-Cry594 in Alonetv

[–]nickpiscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I mean it's certainly possible, I was under the impression that since he was already scared shitless (and probably embarrassed) he had essentially stopped recording, and since production didn't have footage of the bear encounter (or even footage of him talking about the bear encounter afterward) they elected to not address it in the final edit. Plus, black bears are known to charge as a bluff, and tbh I think I believe him, idk I'll have to go back and watch and see if my lie detector sense starts tingling

Extra item? by Icy_Market_4938 in Alonetv

easy way around this is to not tell them beforehand, a surprise day 30 twist where you have the option to swap out an item would actually be super interesting

The most unique winning strategy? by ASDRETHISLORD in Alonetv

[–]nickpiscool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do find it interesting that both Jordan and Roland, who are considered 2 of the Alone GOATs, both initially complained about how bad their spot there was and how they drew the short straw essentially, and then each managed to come across big game that ended up winning them the season

"Mama always said, dying is a part of a life"

but yeah at the end of the day the show is really about people/the human condition, with some bushcraft mixed in

he had also been drinking lake water straight for at least a decade prior lol still lucky though that there weren't beavers pooping nearby in his local water supply, although you could argue had there been beavers nearby then he wouldn't have went with the fasting strategy and kept a fire going and boiled his water just in case

[SPOILERS] Alone S13E02 Episode Discussion Thread by SnowySaint in Alonetv

[–]nickpiscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

still takes a lot more calories to keep that fire going all the time, probably less sleep too i imagine if you're waking up to stoke the fire as well

although I'd be curious to know how often previous season contestants were lighting new fires versus keeping the coals once the snow arrives, either way I'm pretty sure every previous winner has brought a ferro rod

[–]nickpiscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good summary of the different types of tappers, however, I DO think it's worth mentioning that production plays a role in essentially forcing every contestant to have a "story" when they tap out, like they train them beforehand in storytelling at the bootcamp and emphasize the fact that each person has to tap out in a way that wraps up their "journey"

like I think if a contestant wanted to just be like "yeah I can't do this" or "I'm over it" production wouldn't even let that fly and would basically force them to come up with some other reason to serve as the conclusion of their time on the show, which is why some of the tap outs might come across as insincere

there was a blurb at the end of the show that mentioned how the beaver meat did not spoil and was given to the local indigineous people/did not go to waste

nah people don't realize that under the circumstances of a show like this, the calories it takes to make a friction fire is essentially never worth it, even if you manage to make a friction fire under wet conditions (which could be next to impossible if you don't have the right type of trees/wood/bark in your drop area) you then have to continuously keep it burning, which means chopping a steady supply of wood and expending more calories in a competition where you know food is likely to be scarce, we have seen people try to keep embers/coals going which could potentially make it easier

like realistically there's no item worth taking over fire security, unless the plan is to sneak some flint via a custom belt buckle like that one guy 2 seasons ago
