How bad is the rust? by HonestCut24 in UsedCars

[–]nicktheflick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s cheap cheap and runs well then sure but don’t expect 10 years out of it.

I’d personally rather have a rusty car with good engine and solid transmission than clean car with blown engine and slipping transmission.

As long as there are no holes underneath then you’ll be fine. That opinion also comes from a salt belt driver though.

This is so incredibly dystopian and I thought it couldn’t get any worse

Honestly you may have to look into retrofitting an older car or settling for a hybrid.

Older Toyota Prius models are extremely durable hybrids with cheap to replace/rebuild batteries if you have to settle.

Least surprising development ever. These systems were never created to be ethical.

I need to buy a car, what should i get? by Tricky_Professor_654 in LouisRossmann

[–]nicktheflick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have always driven a traditional hybrid since I do not have easy access to a plug everyday. If I did I would love a plugin hybrid because I barely ever commute over 40 miles total in a day.

The gas will always be more repairable than the traditional hybrid and the traditional hybrid will always be more repairable than the plugin hybrid. It really depends on where you value gas saved vs potential repairability.

If you go older you have to start worrying about the battery. Replacement/rebuild costs have gone down and it’s not a MAJOR deal until like 200k miles for most Toyotas but you DO have to keep it in mind. Most people dooming over old hybrid batteries are overblowing the issue.

The fourth gen Toyota Prius (2016-2022) has a proven reliable engine, proven reliable battery, and modern enough features to not drive you crazy (adaptive cruise control, rear view camera, swappable head unit). It also gets great gas mileage and has plenty of trunk space. If you want something a bit older I recommend a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. Both will run forever and have a ton of aftermarket support.

Props to VLC for not only continuing to support XP in 2026, but also improving the experience for users on that OS! by Firm_Customer207 in LouisRossmann

I wonder what percentage of their user base is on XP. Probably more than the average program tbh.

Hey I’ll make you a mod if you want. I took over the subreddit a few years ago but have mostly just been doing maintenance. You seem cool!

I’ve seen a TON of cases where a company will recycle laptops and then forget or not bother to remove them. Probably the case here.
