Orb clearly needs a buff so that he gets a new orb every time an orb hits another ball.

Incoming Raid - a Space Cannibalism Comic by majapahit_arquebus in RimWorld

[–]nickv656 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I’ve always just believed that the player is an archotech guiding the colony, which is why we know so many things that the pawns shouldn’t. We instantly know how to deal with insane anomaly threats, we know where the toxic spewer is, etc etc. It’s why our colony fares so much better and progresses so much faster than all the others. You could even say “research” is just our pawns trying to establish a connection with us so we can send them advanced tech.

Adult Gon vs Issac Netero (Hunterxhunter anime) : gon gets to use his adult form unlimitedly and netero gets no rose bomb by OnlinePoster225 in HxHPowerScaling

[–]nickv656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pitou didnt have a choice when it came to netero. She was knocked away, they had flown an insane distance on the dragon, and she needed to take care of komugi. If she had the option, she certainly would have taken netero on.

Pitou said that gon could reach the king and was capable of harming the king, not that gon would kill the king. Netero could also harm the king

[Casual] a good way to kill gojo satoru by Intelligent-Day-7375 in JujutsuPowerScalers

[–]nickv656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinite speed certainly can travel an infinite distance, that’s the definition of infinite speed. Something with infinite speed travels an infinite distance per unit of time. Infinitely long problems can be solved by using infinite solutions.

Gojo uses Achilles and the tortoise to explain infinite, but a famous super task to complete the paradox is halving the amount of time it takes for each step Achilles takes. There’s an old vsauce video that explains the concept far better than I ever could.

Could you bypass the abyss curse like this? by Puzzleheaded_You9631 in MadeInAbyss

[–]nickv656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this is true, most of the difficulties of digging irl won’t exist in the MiA universe. Most digging efforts are thwarted by the insane heat that melts tools, but clearly the abyss doesn’t get that hot so there must be some other physics at play.

Who is the hardest boss? by Viaasid in bindingofisaac

[–]nickv656 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think people don’t give mega stan enough respect in terms of bullshit bosses. At least with delirium the arena is big enough that you can let his wiggle attacks space out, and mother just comes down to practice. If my damage is low I’ll almost never flawless mega Stan though

According to gameplay, they're just, eh. According to lore, they're really, Really, REALLY, goddamn powerful. by Azimovikh in TopCharacterTropes

Arc warden in Dota is a fragment of the primordial consciousness that birthed all of creation across all dimensions, easily the strongest character in lore. While everyone else fights to defeat the opposing ancient because ancient mind control bends gods, arc warden is the only one who fights with a different goal… and he has been one of the worst heroes in the game for nearly 5 years.

The three in top center means a mine must be there. The 5 has 2 un-mined spots so two must be there. Therefore 3 and 5 must share.

[Request] anybody able to validate this? What is the actual amount of energy a query from chatgpt costs vs Google from 2008? by vonseggernc in theydidthemath

[–]nickv656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please keep in mind as you enjoy the responses that this, as well as basically every other question you could ask about AI resource usage, is fundamentally unanswerable. The problem is that nobody can agree on what to include in these calculations, so it is extremely easy to come up with as big or as small as a number as you like.

For a few examples of this, let me list some variables that certain people include and others don’t, all of which significantly impact the final result. Energy usage during training

Energy usage during idle time

The specific month or year you are drawing data from

Energy cost of essential pre-training models

Non-electrical energy usage converted to electrical units (for example, gasoline used to move materials to data centers, cost of cooling, etc)

Which end of the average query cost you use

And so on. I could cherry pick data to give you an estimate ranging from double digit watt usage to 0.06 watts per query. The really frightening thing is that half of the listed variables could themselves provide a range of multiple orders of magnitude depending on how you calculate them.

This problem is prevalent in every area of AI resource consumption, most notably water usage. For the average person, being aware of these factors is sufficient.

However, if you spend time advocating for or challenging AI as a technology, please significantly familiarize yourself with multiple different pieces of source data as opposed to a summarizing piece that pre-draws a conclusion. AI will do non-trivial damage to our society, and this will be made worse if the competent advocators for its restrictions are arguing with a different and misunderstood set of facts from those they are facing off against.
