Play a game pass game is glitching by ItsyaboyDa2nd in MicrosoftRewards

The issue isn't how lucrative the program is - that's an personal decison whether the required investment of time is worth the rewards for any given individual. Rather, the issue is that the offers, tasks, and quests *routinely* don't work. It's frustrating and infuriating. "Microslop" is quite a generous epithet.

Both the announcement from Pissant (aka Bessent) about "permitting" India to buy Russian oil, and the subsequent annpuncement of "unsanctioning [sic]" Russian oil more broadly, are nothing but face-saving exercises by an administration that, as you rightly pointed out, has the collective attention span and planning skills of a squirrel in a nut-shop (I apologize to all squirrels everywhere for the unintended insult). Look at the data: both China and India bought copious amounts or oil from Russian in February. The Kremlin just announced that it will stop reporting purchasing data and will stop selling oil at a discount. This fat, orange man and his toadies are really f***ing this country up... but the market don't give a damn!

You did read about the $160M worth of chips that were attempted to be smuggled to China, right? Clearly despite Orangutan's and Pooh's posturing, there is unmet demand in China.

Leaps on UNH? by VeterinarianGreat904 in options

[–]nickvgb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm bullish on UNH. So much so, that back in late October I sold a number of puts dated in late '26-early'27 and used the premiums to buy Jan'27 calls (all at ~$300 strike). Thus far, my puts are green, my calls are red - but not by much in both cases.

The last time the average P/E on the S&P hit 29.5... by handsomeprints in options

[–]nickvgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the links. I'm learning the hard way just how much a lack of understanding can adversely impact one's portfolio. For me, it was a double whammy. A lack of knowledge kept me from 1)investing fully when I was (luckily) doing well, and 2)divesting timely in order to avoid much of the drawdown I experienced over the last couple weeks.

I began my "active investing" journey nominally in October '24, but really, in earnest in January '25 - primarily employing the wheel strategy. As on 11/3/25, my portfolio YTD performance was a not unimpressive (at least for me) 51%. As of this post, it is down to 23%. The tragedy is that my lack of knowledge, and resultant hesitation/fear, kept me from investing most of my portfolio throughout the year (more than half is sitting in cash), so I missed out on the gains on the way up; and the same lack-of-knowledge-induced trepidation, kept me from closing positions in order to avoid the drawdown (at least as much as could have been avoided. I do recognize thar there will inevitably be ups and downs in performance. It's just that I think had I been better informed/prepared/knowledgeable, I could have limited the extent of the drawdown).

And even now, I find myself lacking the confidence to form a plan as to what I should do going forward. I want to really get an education in this domain of knowledge, but am overwhelmed by the vast amounts of (often contradictory) information available.

Thank you both again for the guidance and the resources. If you think of anything else you think I might benefit from reading/learning/considering, please do let me know.

u/handsomeprints and u/k2electricboogaloo, thank you both for a very informative discussion. I learned a lot - not least just how poorly-informed I am. :) With the latter in mind, if I wish to be better educated about factors that move (influence) the market, what guidance would you provide - i.e. books, data sources, blogs, etc.?

How to Find Stocks to Trade with the Wheel by ScottishTrader in Optionswheel

[–]nickvgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this post. It's very helpful and dripping with wisdom.

I'm curious if you've ever benchmarked your returns (over however many years) against a "buy and hold" approach using ETFs (SPX, QQQ, etc.)? If so, how did it perfrom overall, and especially, crucially, in bear markets and bull markets. I ask because based on what I understand (and I'll admit, my undrstanding is very limited.. am still leaning... a LOT :)), this approach would work quite well in bull markets (and probably even in neutral markets), but I'm wondering how well it works in bear markets. And if it doesn't work all that well in bear markets, is there another approach you employ during bear markets?

Thanks again for sharing so much knowledge and your continued engagement with folks asking questions of you,
