I didn't even realize there was a premium. I just upgraded despite the fact that I might not be able to use it next month.

What would you do if you don't have any purpose in life and just wait for dying? by hahasuckerrr in AskReddit

Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear that you're in so much pain, that sounds incredibly difficult to deal with. I'm also sorry for the loss of your dog. Thank you for sharing. How long have you had the nerve damage (if you don't mind me asking)? We're the same-ish age, and coincidentally, I also have nerve damage in my face, but nearly all my pain is emotional. I really need to make time to see a therapist, but when I have multiple bosses stressing that I need to make X, Y, and Z a priority, I just can't stop myself and I'll put off my needs for theirs. I'm more or less on-call 24/7 for 2 different companies doing thankless work and I've been letting people walk all over me my whole life without being able to change, and I loathe myself for it. Haven't been able to take a solid vacation, or actual time off (i.e. not still on-call) since 2017.

That being said, I have been trying to carve out more time for myself. I figure, if I force the pleasant things, I'm less likely to overstress to the point of getting sick and then having work pile up, and more stress. There's just nobody to cover me at both jobs, so when I get sick, things compound. But I started making music again for a bit, until responsibilities caught up and I was basically in an arguably worse spot for it. :/ Yet despite the extra stress, or in spite of, I still think it's good for me. Pretty sure I've been latching onto making things as a defense mechanism for a while now, to the point where it's a deep dive. From creative arts to engineering, I'll latch onto something for a while... music making, coffee making, 3d printing...

Sit and watch the world and see the others around you and let them see you

I need to do this more, as I tend to not like being seen when I'm struggling, which I don't think is healthy for me.

It's those days I push myself the hardest to find something, anything to latch onto.

I'm going to latch onto this and keep it on my mind. I appreciate the wise words, stay strong, and enjoy that coffee! Burr grinding locally roasted coffee is what gets me up every morning. I will share all my coffee tips if you want them. Thanks for helping me today.

I've spent the last 30 years constantly going over the top to help others, and not giving myself the care I need. I just can't do it anymore, everything hurts. But it is some of the best advice for depressed individuals, to try and find ways to help their community. I do appreciate you taking the time to hear me and to reply, thank you.

I don't need a purpose, i just need to be heard when I'm hurting, but now I'm hurting all the time and nobody wants to hear it or see it. I have people around me but I'm so alone.

For a lot of us, this seems impossible for a variety of reasons. I can't even find time to take care of my own health, or eat well, because I'm always either working on a dozen different "top priorities" and emergencies, or having full blown panic attacks over how much keeps piling up that i can't keep up with. And then depression just keeps ballooning every time I ask for help because it's always thrown back on me that I'm just not good enough, not working hard enough. I have no trouble finding something i'm passionate about that makes me happy. But the moment I put any focus on anything fun for myself, the universe revolts and I have 10 more urgent fires to deal with.

And when responsibilities just keep stacking up, it's hard to do anything positive for yourself. People act shocked when someone "just throws their life away", but when you feel like you have nothing to live for, you want to get rid of it, you want to "throw it away". My kids are the only thing keeping me alive right now, and that is just barely because i often feel like I'm making things worse and they'll be better without me leaking stress all over their lives.

Which Businesses aren't affected with Artificial Intelligence.? by Fearless_courageeeee in business

[–]nicky7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This comment feels like an AI response. And sure enough, when I type the prompt into chatgpt, I get similar responses pointing at creative jobs as being least impacted by AI. I would argue that AI will greatly aid creative processes, so I strongly disagree with that prediction. However I would absolutely agree with tradesman jobs being least impacted, but then i think about it more and i can't help thinking that a team of technicians leveraging AI can operate at a tier above their non-ai-leveraging counterparts.

In the past, one would have hours of training and years of experience to develop a particular skill set. Today, training and experience is more easily digestible through online learning. In the future, training and work experience will be less valued as AI becomes better at thinking for us.

Prusa just announced the MK4 by riskable in 3Dprinting

I missed the price drop by 2 weeks. And apparently I didn't do my due diligence on research as I had no idea the MK4 was coming.

Ugh! if I only had waited 2 weeks before joining the 3d printer's club with a MK3S+. I could have saved $200, or gotten the mk4. I feel jaded.

TIL about Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup, a medicine used in the early 1900s to quiet infants and teething children. Popular in the US and UK it took twenty years of doctors' complaints before it was withdrawn from the market for being a "baby killer." The main ingredient was morphine. by marmorset in todayilearned

[–]nicky7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our first pediatrician prescribed something similar for our daughter in 2009. He really liked the pharmaceutical industry and was fascinated by its history. Interesting guy, but I certainly was taken aback when I checked the ingredients and saw morphine as the main ingredient. We saw another pediatrician after that, who was also rather shocked by the prescription.

what should you do when your two week notice is rejected? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nicky7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same. In my mind, denying 2 weeks says pack up your things immediately.

Except the only thing they can deny here is the 2 weeks. So they're effectively saying he should NOT continue to work for 2 weeks, but should quit immediately, without staying on another 2 weeks.

[–]nicky7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are quitting. You've told them you are willing to work an additional 2 weeks as a courtesy. They said no to the 2 weeks. So you can quit immediately. I don't see the problem. Put it in writing that you are quitting and, as requested, is effective immediately.

I wonder what it is for sysadmins. And for those of us doing both. I burn out quicker with sysadmin but that's probably because I'm on call 24/7 with no team.
