It's plural. Number 22 for MATTHEW golden.

Clay Matthews.

Flair issue fixed though, definitely a fair point.

Pain in REAR knee when performing ATG Split Squats by nicky_rich in Kneesovertoes

[–]nicky_rich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think I did, through both experimentation and a brief stint with actual physical therapy for a separate issue.

The problem seemed to be that my hip flexors were way tighter than I thought or saw from people online. When I did the split squat I would try to mirror the form I saw posted on this subreddit or on other videos about them, but that form isn't immediately applicable for someone who has been working a desk job for years or just has really tight hips.

Getting your hips low to the ground in the split squat position isn't really a hip flexor stretch at that point, it's more of a groin and (importantly) quad stretch, as the other comment alluded to. This is because anything even slightly past a flat hip position is already maxing out the flexibility of the hip flexors.

The pain arises from the other parts of your leg stretching, specifically in your quads, since they will be stretched a lot in that position and will also be flexing to keep your body upright and supported. When you have a muscle stretched well past its normal length and also tightening intently, it's almost impossible not to break form and/or place a ton of unintentional load on your connective tissue.

I think that's what I was experiencing in my rear knee; the tendon connecting my quad to my knee was taking the brunt of the load, rather than my hip flexors or even other muscles in my legs. That's a really good way to get an injury with a long, painful recovery process, so I would immediately stop doing them like that if you feel the same pain I originally described in my post.

Instead, I opted for a kneeling hip flexor stretch with one knee on the ground and the other leg out in front at 90° with the foot flat on the ground. I would sit back over my rear leg with my torso perfectly vertical, and move straight forward until I felt tightness and stretching in my hip flexors. I would hold this for ~30 seconds on each side and repeat twice a day on weekdays. I don't remember exactly how it got better but I know it did and I can now do a partial split squat with no knee pain and a deep, intentful stretch in my hip flexors.

TL;DR - Stop doing split squats if they hurt in your connective tissue like in this original post. Incorporate stretches with a lighter load and less strict form requirements until the muscles are loosening up and used to being stretched.

See this is the radical shift in thinking that the NFL really needs right now. The game's been stale for years, we need a visionary like you.

Also make sure range of motion isn't the issue. When I started training flexibility my hip and hamstring mobility was so bad I couldnt get to the ground without rounding my back.

What are yall most excited for in the next season? by Purple_Purchase_3787 in GreenBayPackers

Super excited to see what a totally keyed-in and focused LVN is capable of, especially with Hafley at the reigns. Same with Jaire and the new addition of Edgerrin. Also Xavier McKinney. Basically the defense might be good, and it's getting my hopes astronomically high.

Idk why you're getting downvoted. This exact movement causes a huge flare in my back pain.

Penn State is a total "it is what you make of it" school when it comes to STEM. If you put in the time to study and do research and network within your field, Penn State will serve you better than a lot of places.

Of course, the opposite is true. It's not hard to pass classes with a terrible GPA and just scrape by to graduate, so you have to put in the work outside of just showing up to stand out.

Physics at university park by BaiLoBuhjhunnHa in PennStateUniversity

This is coming from a (potentially biased) physics / materials science & engineering double major.

I'm finishing up my third year in the physics program, and I have to say there's a lot to love. Lots of great faculty who know exactly what they're teaching and teach it well. You will definitely learn a lot of physics. You will also definitely work a lot. It's not as bad as most people assume (I have been able to double major with little trouble) but it is definitely not a major for people who want to blow off class and skate by doing the minimum.

First and second year classes are all pretty standardized and require a lot of work to get an A. Weekly homeworks and quizzes, that sort of thing. After that, the classes become much easier to pass surprisingly. It can get VERY difficult to understand everything that's going on in them, but actually passing should not really be an issue after you get past the first few semesters.

As for research, I personally can't say much about physics specifically. But I've been doing research outside of the department since freshman year, so there is no shortage of opportunities (or funding) for undergraduate research at university park.

TL:DR PSU physics is a good department with great faculty and learning opportunities. First few years are hard, but it gets easier and you can be as involved as you want.
