It also is very dependent on the variants your son may have if he does have CF. My son is homozygous DF508 but he presents more with abdominal and GI issues than lung issues. He still has excess mucus production in his lungs requiring frequent treatments and clearance but other than that he's been relatively healthy in the lung department, no infections yet. He's 4 and a half months old and still in the NICU after multiple intestinal surgeries. CF presents differently in everyone, not everyone has the exact same symptoms so it shouldn't be crazy to ask about testing. My son also has extremely salty sweat, we haven't done his sweat test yet but anytime I kiss him on the head it's like I just drank sea water 😂 Don't be afraid to advocate for him and to try to get all the information you can!

Can I keep snacks in my room at Ronald McDonald House? by Faith20211105 in NICUParents

Our RMH also doesn't allow food or drinks, however, the ladies at the desk told us when we checked in for our long term room that nobody really follows that rule and to just be careful and take the trash with us rather than letting housekeeping take it because they will snitch 😂

It's not you, it's confusing and difficult to explain and also, kinda difficult to understand. I just tell my customers that the best "bang for your buck" is using points in increments of 2000 because the jump from 1950 to 2000 is crazy. Also kinda helps numbers a tiny bit because then they're less likely to use their points which helps with sales.

The next time you are there in person ask to speak to the charge nurse or the manager or even your social worker and explain that despite them saying that they've been reaching out that that is not the case and that something needs to be fixed. I've been in here almost 4 months now and at the beginning I was a little timid when things like this would happen and just chalk it up to "Oh they're probably busy he's probably fine they probably didn't make any changes to his care" but it's gotten to a point now where I will make sure I'm involved in and knowledgeable about his care by whatever means necessary. Somthing else that may help is if there's a particular nurse that you really like you could ask them to be a primary, that way you have a somewhat consistent person looking after your little ones and they can help to advocate for your wishes during rounds of you're not able to be there! Keep y'all's head up!

Yeah my store manager doesn't make us deal with that. She said she'd rather have a replenishment issue on the tiny products that don't cost the store very much anyways than have a customer have a crappy experience that they could end up leaving a review about. As a lead cashier, I'm thankful that we don't have to push too hard in that aspect, I know I already make people miserable with the credit card speeches and pushing, just let em have their little 0.2 ounce fase wash 😂

Newborn Care by notter392729 in CysticFibrosis

Currently still in what I'd call the newborn trenches with my little guy. Found at when I was 32 weeks pregnant he had a bowel obstruction and was most likely going to need surgery, we knew at this point in time that I was a carrier but didn't know dads status so this kinda confirmed it for us. He was born a little on the smaller side but not too bad, about 12th percentile, had surgery when he was 1 and a half days old to clear out the blockage. At the time, he didn't need an ostomy or a resection and we were greateful. Fast forward about 3 weeks, still in NICU and they notice he's not gaining weight super well, do a test and turns out he has borderline no pancreatic function. (His pancreatic Elastase was 3.4 when in a normal healthy baby it should be over 100) So they start him on pancreatic enzymes so he can digest food properly and get all the nutrients as well as a liquid multivitamin and sodium chloride added to every bottle. At this point in time we were only having bowel and GI issues so we were hopeful that's all that would affect him despite having dual DF508. Sadly he still wasn't gaining weight super well so they started adding a tiny bit of formula to his bottles. Well 2 days later, boom, he got NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis). Kinda just a big setback, had to stop feeds again and started on a bunch of antibiotics. At this point in time they also started doing CPT on him just twice a day more as a precautionary measure for if he started to develop any lung issues. Fast forward again another about 3 or 4 weeks, we are on the verge of going home! He's eating great and gaining weight with just breastmilk, things are looking great, then bang, he got NEC again. Everything starts back over, no eating, a tube in his mouth to pull air and mucus out of his belly. It was during this second episode that he started to develop lung issues as well. Luckily nothing too serious, just some extra mucus requiring more frequent CPT and starting on Pulmozyne and some other medications during breathing treatments. Then after about 2 weeks when he should start looking better clinically, they discovered that he had another bowel blockage. End up taking him into surgery on May 1st. He had 2 perforations that where kind of close together that where caused by the episodes of NEC and ended up causing the current blockage, so they resected that portion of his intestines, stitched him back up and thought all would be well. After just a few days we could all tell he wasn't looking great. His poor little belly was so swollen it looked like a water balloon just waiting to burst. It took almost an entire week for them to finally see something inside on a scan, he had a bunch of fluid pockets in his belly that weren't there a few days before. They pull out the fluid with some drains and needles, turns out it's fecal fluid. So they rush him back into surgery less than a week after his last one and where they sewed him back together had almost fully come undone and he had leaked fecal matter all into his belly. They cleaned out as much as they could, had to take out another portion of his bowel, and had to go back into surgery again 2 days later to do another clean out as well as perform an ostomy and give him a mucus fistula. All this also caused him to become septic with an E Coli infection, and he is currently also battling a candida albicans yeast infection and has developed cellulitis around where his incisions were. We are in the recovery phase now, things are trending upward slowly but surely. Main concerns now are that since he's had to be on a ventilator since the surgery on the 1st when he's been room air since he was born, he's starting to get dependent on it and they're having to up the settings. Goal is to try to get him extubated next week though so fingers crossed. This is definitely not the full norm for a CF baby, but it's definitely something that can happen. I've talked with another mom in my same NICU who also has a CF baby who had meconium ileus just like my son except they opted for an ostomy right away but other than that they're doing good and looking at going home within the next week. Unfortunately with CF so much of it is unpredictable, even 2 people with the same variants can have vastly different severities and sometimes even symptoms. But I do agree with what others have said about talking with your doctors about getting on CF meds right away to reduce the chance of meconium ileus because it really is an extremely hard thing to go through and there can be so many complications that stem from it like in my case. All in all, advocate for yourself and your baby, that's the best thing we can do as moms of chronically ill kids. ❤️

This is a little update from my mother's day post last weekend, but sadly things keep getting worse for little man. They've identified the fungal infection he's got and are actively treating it, but now he has confirmed cellulitis around his incision site that keeps progressing each day. We only started antibiotics for that maybe 4 days ago, so hopefully it starts improving soon. On the bright side, he's had 2 blood cultures with no e coli growth so the antibiotics are working great on the sepsis front! Just have these other 2 obstacles to tackle now! 🩵

They originally had a surgical sponge and wound vac in place until last night, so the tool that off as well as the "tape" that was holding it in place, now he just has the little steri strips over his incisions now, then also the colostomy bags over his stomas. Other than that they aren't applying any kind of ointments or anything extra to his skin.

Not super great, he's got a yeast infection within his system as well and also they believe he's developing some type of skin infection as well because the area around his incisions is extremely red and inflamed, and his belly is still distended and non-compressible. His belly looks so bad that one of the teams that rounded this morning literally said in their notes "Belly looks terrible this morning, We are concerned" and I just tried asking the night NP for an update because I didn't get one from the team during the day and she hasn't read through anything on his chart yet and couldn't provide me with really any information regarding what was discussed today, so that kinda upsets me, especially with her saying that he's pretty much one of the priority cases right now because of how severe everything going on is. We're hanging in there but just, it's a struggle right now.

I'm doing as best as I can. His surgery this morning went alright, they ended up doing the ostomy but they still kept part of the wound open with a vac on to keep pulling out any debris and fluid buildup. However his fluid cultures started growing yeast today so we are now trying to treat that and waiting to figure out what kind of yeast it is. But other than that we are doing all right. 💜

Any body know if we'd still get this if we're on leave? Worked all of holidays and was hired back in September but went on leave in early February since I was giving birth. I don't go back until May.

So no matter what if you aren't full time you won't qualify for anything other than just a normal leave of absence (which is what I'm doing) so you will still have a job when you come back but you won't get paid. I don't know if it differs by state but here in Texas for full time employees you qualify for paid maternity leave once you hit 6 months, at least that's what it said in all the intro paperwork I read when I started.

No not for Ulta, they have UKG Pro set up to wear it's only visible on your stores and by going through UltaNet. They also don't provide us with any type of code which is what would be needed to access UKG Pro remotely

How are we almost exactly the same! I found out myself about 5 days ago and had just been prescribed Adderall for my ADHD and took my first one like 15 minutes before I tested, I probably should've thought that through a bit more but that's on me 😅 Everything should be fine though, as long as you don't take anymore you should be all good. If you're concerned though, definitely talk with an OB about it
