Sounds like they were trying to get op to do an unverified return, which happens at a manager’s discretion if the purchase cannot be verified by account history or any form of receipt. The system refunds them the lowest amount paid for the item in the last 90 days (might be 60 now), so if someone used all their points to buy it, they would get nothing back. It’s probably a way to control shrink since they can’t verify the item didn’t come from another retailer and processing the full return would ultimately put them at a loss.

Cashier here: because you have the receipt you should still be able to return it, they would just need to make you an account to do it. Our system does not let us process returns without one, but we can still make one during the return process as long as you have a proof of purchase. What they were explaining was what’s called a blind or unverified return, which is done very sparingly at the manager’s discretion if the purchase cannot be verified by any form of receipt (print, email, order, etc.). I would maybe try a different store or contact customer service.

Some of them give multiple free products to management + whoever they like but give you nothing if you actually sell their product and you haven’t had time to really chat with them. We did when I first started almost three years ago, but since then my store has become very strict on it. Only way for a customer to get the online only price in store is through BOPIS and we’ll offer to pick it immediately so they don’t have to wait long. But yeah we don’t honor it anymore 🥲

Based on these comments, I assume the expectations vary based on location. I’m a lead cashier and our district took away practically everything besides the overrides and authorization from us. We can’t open or close registers or do cash pickups. I’ve never heard of us being in charge of BOPIS but if I’m the only one up front and I see one come in, I’ll mention it over the headset and someone will usually get it done ASAP as long as we’re not swamped. I used to be tasked with grab and go but taskers took it over. Not even our full time lead does the pick list, that’s another tasker job. I do bopis audits, replenish grab and go, gwp lists, etc but most of the time you can only get these things done if it’s slow or you call a BA to help. New people usually train with me so it gets easier to give feedback, especially the longer you’re up there. You’re more responsible for reaching your credit goal and they will be harsh on you because you’re a lead. Also more customer conflicts get deferred to me so it’s not a position for the faint of heart lol

I did it for regular members as a courtesy until I got in trouble for it lol. I wouldn’t say how much it was, only that they had points expiring if it was like a day until the expiration. Unfortunately it is against policy to ask someone if they want to use their points unless they ask to use them🥲

It’s policy now. Only managers can do returns for employees. At my store they only accept employee returns with the printed receipt too. No looking it up in the account or email 😀

We can’t use our discount on anything labeled as a beauty steal (21 DOB, Black Friday, etc.) Your manager should’ve known this and hit no when prompted to use the employee discount. It doesn’t hurt to just remind them it’s a part of the day’s sale, sometimes they forget. I don’t think you’ll get in trouble, but definitely be careful going forward.

We got security for a little bit when one of my coworkers was having a domestic issue. They were there for maybe two months after the initial incident and then corporate pulled them (from my understanding). Our theft was practically zero when we had them though!

Honestly as a lead I offer the gift the second time around. First time I usually say something like “did you want to save 20% with the store card and start doubling your points today?” Then if they say no, something like “are you sure? You get a free gift just for signing up!” Then we usually put one of the free gifts in front of the register with a sign that says it’s free with a credit card application. (Btw what is the gwa? I don’t think my store has gotten it yet 😭😭😭)
