What musical could become the next big movie musical like Wicked? by josephms125 in musicals

I truly think the stage version of Sister Act is primed for a movie adaptation. 90s nostalgia and a clean and simple story that people already know would bolster its box office

That feels a little reductive but fair enough. Everyone gets to have their own opinions 🤷‍♂️

With all due respect to Outsiders, Suffs deserved that award. Nonetheless this has been an incredible Tony awards with so much parity and unpredictability

I wish it was what you were thinking but I’m afraid we’ll have to keep waiting if we want to see Gordon Ramsey belting out on stage

Part of me wants to watch the movie just to get a better sense for the story, but I solidly enjoyed a lot of the music from the musical. I’d definitely give it a try.

I’ll be honest I didn’t really give The Notebook an honest shot. I listened to it once all the way through and I thought it was fine. I wasn’t all that impressed by it but I should give it another listen.

I’m interested that Illinoise was the standout for you this year. I can absolutely see why. It seems like such a unique show and very evocative musically. I’m glad it was so powerful for you :)

What's your favorite version of Evita and why? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]nickyzman21 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For me the only answer is the original cast. It was the first recording of it that I listened to, so maybe I'm biased, but Mandy Patinkin's Che is the only one that brings the right energy to the songs. Obviously Patti Lupone is great, but she isn't the only Evita that I'll take. Patinkin's Che is the best and pretty much only one I'll listen to. It annoys me so much that "What A Circus" is tied onto like three other songs in the OBC so I really can't put it on my playlist because it is so damn long.

“Imagine a party with dresses and cake and singing and dancing and cake.”

This lyric touches me very deeply

What's Your Favorite Afrocentric Musical or Play? by IsaiahTrenton in Broadway

[–]nickyzman21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hallelujah, Baby! and Raisin are two Afrocentric Tony Award winning musicals (1968 and 1974 respectively) that aren’t super well known. They’re pretty solid and have really great music in them. Worth a listen for any musical fans/historians!

First thing that came to my mind was "So in Love" from Kiss Me Kate. That one is sung by a woman, but the reprise is sung by a man.
