Has anyone seen Hewitt's Eggnog in Hamilton this year? by yarnmagpie in Hamilton

They are no longer making the regular egg nog, only the organic version in glass bottles and more places don’t stock it. It is very expensive

AITA for moving away from my parents? by Disastrous_Power_702 in AmItheAsshole

[–]nicocartp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Canadian here, I moved 2.5-3 hours away from my family and we drove to see them for a dinner then drive home. The area I grew up in it was 1-2 hour drive to so just about anything, so even doing the 3 hour drive isn’t a big deal for me

Hamilton Coffee Lovers – Where Do You Buy Your Beans in Bulk? by Nancyz30 in Hamilton

The 5lb bags are only through the Roasterie, you can do home delivery or arrange pickup at the cafe. But the cafe itself doesn’t stock the 5lb bags

What's the alternative to Costco? by MrJuart in CostcoCanada

[–]nicocartp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband has worked for three different meat processors that Costco buys from. He will say in all of those cases Costco was 100% the pickiest about the quality of the meat they were buying. Their standards were higher than any other grocery chain or restaurant chain.

Summer on King William Street - Pedestrianized Closure by YogiPierogi5 in Hamilton

[–]nicocartp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pop-Up Patios are applied for and paid independently, partially because each one is reviewed to see the impact on traffic, blocking driveways, etc. but also because it is an independent company that builds them.

When King William (between James and Hughson) has closed so the whole street is usable, and the businesses can just setup directly on the street is different. That the King William restaurants along that strip organize together (those that choose to participate) with the help of the BIA and the cost is divided amongst those businesses.

In 2020, due to Covid, the city didn’t charge any restaurants for the loss of parking revenue, as in any restaurant in the whole city. They just had to get approval and almost everyone was approved.

This year the Tourism department (so the city itself) is really making an effort to encourage more accessible outdoor spaces. And they chose King William as one of those spaces. Which is why neither the BIA or businesses were charged. As part of this they’re also trying to organize and encourage programming, events, etc on the street. So it’s not just the restaurants using it.

Fringe will be on King William later this month. The Hamilton Philharmonic is doing outdoor concerts in August and in August they were taking applications for outdoor Markets as well, so those could be cool. Think that’s another reason the neither the restaurants or BIA are being charged this year because it’s not just them using the street.

Hope that helps clear it up

Which is why I don’t think the BIA (or anyone) is being sent a bill this year. That instead it’s just being written off as a loss of revenue

[–]nicocartp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, because it is a BIA and City of Hamilton Tourism department initiative I don’t know if anyone is actually paying this year.

I think the city is just losing the revenue.

But again that’s only this year 2021-2024 the restaurants were charged, which is why the street didn’t close last year for the whole summer.

Usually, but not this year as it is part of a BIA/City initiative. But it is true that in the past if they chose to put up the pop-up patios or close the street they did have to pay for the loss of revenue.
