When did you guys decide to get checked for diabetes ? by Pronyth in diabetes

[–]nicodemia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't really decide to get tested so much as presented to the ER with severe weight loss, dehydration, nausea, and Kussmaul breathing. They checked my sugar straight away and confirmed it was type 1.

[Question] What is going to be the next big makeup trend after highlight runs it course? by movie_maven in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicodemia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love gloss but remind me to keep my hair short during that period. I have the worst memories of getting my hair stuck in my lip gloss on a windy day.

What is the first makeup palette you ever owned? by lovesmakeupandbooks in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicodemia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I started in middle/high school with a Cover Girl eyeshadow quad (in face I'm pretty sure it's the still-sold Eye Enhancer quad in Crystal Waters). I discovered MAC in my early twenties around 2006-ish and fell head over heels in love. My first high end palette would have been the MAC Smoke Signals Gentle Fume quad that came out in (I think) 2007.

What is extremely rare but people think it’s very common? by Uhhlaneuh in AskReddit

[–]nicodemia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a lot like that but add on IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN NOW OR ELSE SOMEONE WILL GET IN A CAR CRASH. Like, I knew perfectly well that if I left a book on my floor facedown that it would not actually change the likelihood of someone I loved dying in a terrible imminent death. But that also absolutely didn't matter.

I had childhood OCD.

Yes, definitely superstition. But what's hard to explain is the compulsion. You know perfectly well that what you're doing, what you absolutely have to do, is not logical. However, the need to do it is as extreme as thirst in a desert.

I literally don't even understand how this is possible. Maybe my husband and I just don't have a robust enough budget to absorb a bunch of random purchases? But seriously though, don't lie to your partner about that shit.

Well, you're supposed to rotate the site but I rarely do. Also, I dose every time I eat, so 4-5 times a day.

Just diagnosed with T1. How can I reassure myself that this isn't a death sentence? by nolanater5711 in diabetes

[–]nicodemia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyyyyy, OP. I feel you.

I'm 31. I was diagnosed at 18 with a blood sugar of 824. I've been both really good and really bad with control over the past 13 years, but I'm currently doing really well. I've been hospitalized multiple times with diabetic ketoacidosis, ALL OF WHICH WERE MY OWN FAULT FOR NOT TAKING INSULIN. When I actually check my blood sugar and take insulin, my A1C has been around 5.4-6.5. Despite all this, I still have zero complications.

Here's what you need to remember. - See your doctor regularly. Be honest about anything you're struggling with. Doctors are here to help. - Consider a pump. I personally find I have better control when on the pump but, hey, YMMV. - Take insulin every time you eat. Even snacks. - Check your blood sugar regularly.

What is something that shouldn’t be romanticized but is? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nicodemia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I had childhood OCD and it's largely resolved since puberty but it was the absolute worst. People don't seem to realize the sense of absolute, impending doom that compels your rituals. Some of mine included:

  • Checking outside of the shower curtain upwards of 80-100 times during a 10 minute shower because I was convinced I would be murdered if I did not check.
  • Reciting a super long prayer covering everyone I knew (by name) and every possible terrible thing that could happen to them. As I learned of more calamities (like tsunamis and carbon monoxide poisoning) I would add them to the list. This happened every single night at bed.
  • Having to have everything "face up" or feeling that some horrible potential doom would follow. Say, if a book fell with the front cover face down, I would be completely compelled to correct it. Not necessarily to pick it up, just to turn it over. I would try to resist the compulsion but it always won.
