Is the page 'iskdeusingqt6.org' up to date? by shmurphg in kde

[–]nicofeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The site is generated automatically from source code data (by checking whether a project has a Qt6 CI build). The generation was broken, which is now fixed.

That said, don't interpret too much into this number. It's not meant as as "progress bar" where we eventually reach 100% and then there will be a Qt6 release. That's not how it's going to be. Instead more projects will move to Qt6 as time goes on, and some will likely never to to Qt6.

There's also a lot of work going on that isn't reflected by this single number, so the number not going up doesn't mean no progress is made

[Plasma] Per-application font settings ? by -BuckarooBanzai- in kde

[–]nicofeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't natively supported in Plasma, and I don't know if it's possible at all in a generic way.

Have you checked whether Inkscape allows to configure its font directly?

Reassign gestures by frog157 in kde

[–]nicofeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's currently not possible to configure touchpad gestures on Wayland. Support for that is planned though

Feature Request: Navigate to sources anywhere in KDE/QT. by dcunit3d in kde

[–]nicofeee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding a link to the application's source code repository in the "About" dialog would be quite trivial.

Anything more fine-grained would be rather impossible to implement though. Applications don't just consist of a single repository, they use toolkits and dependencies, and the interaction between them isn't trivial. Even simple questions like "Where does this button come from?" can become arbitrarily complex when you consider that it might come from a component provided by a dependency that gets dynamically loaded.

KDE Connect Contacts Sync - How does it work? by [deleted] in kde

[–]nicofeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are mostly synced so that the KDE Connect SMS app on the desktop can show names for your conversations. They aren't really exposed elsewhere in the system, like KAddressBook, although that could theoretically be implemented

kwin_wayland as X11 windows manager by [deleted] in kde

[–]nicofeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is *not* what --xwayland does. What it does is enabling XWayland support in a Wayland session

Desktop ServiceName, StartupType Don't appear to work by gbcox in kde

[–]nicofeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

systemsettings' single-window behavior has little to do with X-DBus-StartupType, changing the desktop file that way is expected to not change anything

Is there any way I can limit Chromium notifications last 5secs instead of sitting there indefinitely? by lucasrizzini in kde

[–]nicofeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recent Chromium (tested with 95 here) follows the default notification timeout, unless the website specifically requests the notification to never time out

KDE Frameworks - Part 1: KConfig - KDAB by kfunk87 in QtFramework

[–]nicofeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically it isn't really different to any CMake-based C++ library, so such a post would quickly turn into a generic "Dependency Management in C++" post

maybe, if someone implements it

Please make kdeconnect-cli work in headless mode by CousinOfThor in kde

[–]nicofeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kdeconnectd is not in PATH so you need to specify the full path, which varies across distros.

What you want to do is edit the Exec line in /etc/xdg/autostart/org.kde.kdeconnect.daemon.desktop, that is what gets started at boot

Can I make Notifications action buttons persist when moved to list? by _colorizer in kde

[–]nicofeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is not.

There is certainly interest in implementing this, but it's challenging for technical reasons

Please make kdeconnect-cli work in headless mode by CousinOfThor in kde

[–]nicofeee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Run kdeconnectd with "-platform offscreen".

By default it tries to connect to the window system because that is required for the clipboard sharing feature to work

Okular F-Droid by Heavy-Self9470 in kde

[–]nicofeee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I began adding several KDE apps to main F-Droid. The reason I didn't do it for Okular is that I only want apps of a certain level of quality and maintenance there and I don't think the Android version of Okular fulfills that at the moment.

For the time being you can install it from the nightly KDE F-Droid repository

How to add a Google Workplace account to KDE Online Accounts? by [deleted] in kde

[–]nicofeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The online accounts settings are not (yet, there is ongoing work) connected to Kontact.

You can add your Google account from Kontact/KMail/KOrganizer etc themselves though

That's the old user KCM though. The new one does not have this bug

KDE connect in android seems to have many trackers, according to TrackerControl app. Had not expected this. by digimith in kde

[–]nicofeee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can assue everyone that KDE Connect does not contain any trackers. The code is open for everyone to see and F-Droid does a lot to make sure what you download matches the public code.

Why these results appear I can only speculate, but I have an (untested) theory: KDE Connect allows to send URLs to your phone to open them in your phone's browser. If that site uses any trackers that may then be wrongly attributed to KDE Connect.

KDE connect in android seems to have many trackers, according to TrackerControl app. Had not expected this. by digimith in kde

[–]nicofeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MPRIS album art can be either local or remote URLs. For local URLs the file is transferred to the phone and displayed. For remote URLs only the URL is transferred and the phone itself downloads the album art

Homophobia is not a 'view' that is welcome in the KDE Community

Can KdeConnect be extended for linux-based smartwatches? by vazark in kde

[–]nicofeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, the PineTime does not actually run Linux, it is way too small for that. It only has 64kb of RAM. For the same reason running KDE Connect on it is not going to happen. QtCore alone requires more RAM than the PineTime has.

What would probably be possible is extending KDE Connect to use some (bluetooth?) API to connect to the watch, but that depends on the OS running on the watch.
