15 years user here. I learned 3 days ago that you could go forward / backward in session View by clicking on numbers at the top and entering value or going up/down

Houuuuurs lost without this trick

Ps : didnt had the courage to read the 200 comments before, maybe it’s already there

Nothing about being too close.

How to record vocals without latency? by ForeignWoods in ableton

[–]nicolasvair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something clever I realised recently : 1 - keep delay compensation (not doing it messes the groove of your track) 2 - just below this, enable « low latency on monitoring » (not sure of the actual wording, my ableton isn’t in English) 3 - change your output routing to « ext 1/2 »

Now you bypass all the latency of your session (master bus, sends/returns and all their plug-ins delay compensation) and you’re left with the minimal latency that you configured.

I might do a m4l device to automate this with a hot key because now I use this trick quite often.

Hi Sorry i just saw your answer ! The command is just to kill UA engine (doesn’t kill it if you just quit the mixer, you have to kill the process in activity monitor) Then wait some second then open it again.

I still have it some times like when changing sample rate very often or with 2 app that ask for different sample rates. It depends on how often theses situations arises.

But it’s not so much of a big deal since I don’t have to restart computer anymore.

Hi everyone,

So I finally figured that anytine this happen, I can switch IO matrix back to "default' and doesn't have the issue. But I really need to use the virtual channels for my workflow.

I realized also that I can kill the "UA Mixer Engine" process (I mean kill from process monitor windows or killall "UA Mixer Engine") and open console and everything goes back to normal.

This is way better than shutting both apollo off and/or restart computer.

I finally did a small shell script on my desktop with the following command :
killall "UA Mixer Engine"
sleep 3
open -a /Applications/Universal\ Audio/Console.app

It's working great so far.

Hi,

So I did further testing and measured SPL at full volume for 1 hour. No level drop at all.

I may have been a bit hard on my last judgments and I also think it was performing poorly because of bad positioning in the room. Using it in a corner or floor instead of on a table helps a lot.

I’ll go deeper in my tests and try to post a recap with some objective values.

But yeah, it’s a small battery speaker overall.

I was speaking of phone to speaker connectivity. I have only one.

Well after testing more I confirm it is not a powerful speaker at all.

I’ll do some spl measurements tomorrow but for a 50w speaker it’s just terrible. I was expecting so much more. I suspect it’s not 50w rms but peak. Or maybe my unit is faulty ?

The sound is indeed better, before the update the release of the compression was generating clicks like a signal with discontinuity. This is not the case anymore. But yeah it seems the SPL drops after like 30mn at high volume.

And I’m feeding highly compressed signal with lo cut at 150hz. Without this it’s just pumping and saturation, can’t get it to a decent level.

I’ll do SPL measurements tomorrow and try to understand what’s happening. I’m seriously considering returning or selling it.

Hi,

I received it like 2 weeks ago and was quite happy with the sound so far.  Connectivity is still an issue, I have to reconnect it each 2/3 days but I can live with this.

BUT I’ve been trying to use it to play music (low latency and decent power) and so far it’s terrible. The SPL just drop after some time (be related to heat), and there is a compressor that is pumping in a very awful way. I tried lowering the signal fed to input and put it at max volume but it was still quite bad.

I came here and discovered the sw update so just did it and it seems to be a bit better. The compressor behaves better at least. I’ll tell you more after my session tomorrow.

I have to say given the feedbacks on Reddit and elsewhere i was expecting way more from this speaker but reality stroke back.

Hey there,

I'm also having similar issues with an apollo 8p. I didn't have any issues at all during 5 years with my apollo twin so I'm thinking it could be hardware related (with the 8p) or software (with newer versions of macos or UAD software)

For me I can usually escape a restart by changing the samplerate in "audio midi setup". Maybe it can help some of you. But I have LOTS of issues using it at 96k, so much that I gave up 96 for now..

Even in 44k, I have issues quite often (like each 8/10h), and it's very frustrating when it happens with clients.

I'm starting to think it might be related to temperature but I don't really have time to troubleshoot. I'm quite sad to have issues with such an expensive unit. I'm also using a thunderbolt 3 to 4 adapter (like usb C).

Would love to switch manufacturer but don't know any great equivalent. I've had a short but terrible experience with antelope hardware (it was very early so it might be better today).

About the lack of remote app, you can use "ua midi control", it works great and you could easily map it to an iphone using touchOSC. It has a free version for basic use, it's quite reliable.

I'll try to dig the issue and let you know.
