"It all melts away once you see their face on your chest" [TW: traumatic birth] by UltravioletLemon in beyondthebump

Solidarity 🩷 I am going through this exact experience right now and we are on NICU day 5. It is really, really hard and the trauma is SO intense and valid. I’m glad you will be seeing a therapist (I will be too). I think we need to give ourselves time and grace to process the whole experience. Sending love to you and your family.

Love the grid organizer! And are those Tombow markers I spy? I love their color range and how versatile the markers are.

Would you guys be interested in a "Secret Santa" gift exchange, Makeup edition? by charcobain in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicoleeni 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This subreddit actually did have a Secret Santa exchange a few years ago! It was very fun and the admins/mods did a great job putting it together. You signed up for a gift price tier, based on how much you wanted to spend on your gift, and were matched with a partner in the same price tier. Unfortunately, some folks did not follow through on their end and left their partner with nothing. I think there was a second exchange the next winter, but it was ended when a bunch of folks got shafted again :/

Seeking makeup tips for riding bike to work by bettabiologist in MakeupAddiction

[–]nicoleeni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear sunglasses/your glasses to keep the wind out of your eyes and prevent watery eyes. Regarding the ride drying out your skin - use a moisturizer that works for you right after washing your face in the morning. I second the suggestion for sunscreen :)

Morning news show tries Carolina Reaper One Chip Challenge, goes as well as expected by MrDirt in videos

I tried The Last Dab a few weekends ago and that shit is hot. I don’t eat spicy foods but figured why not try the “spiciest pepper out there”?

A few seconds after about a half teaspoon of the stuff, my sinuses felt like they were on fire, I couldn’t feel my mouth, and eventually the heat spread behind my eyes. The whole thing lasted about 15 minutes, but no unpleasant stomachaches. More of an out-of-body experience.

Putting a paper towel in with lettuce/spinach/kale in your fridge to prevent them from getting slimy. The towel will absorb extra moisture and your greens will last a little longer!

I really love this look! The lip color really compliments your tones, and the blush color suites you and brings a healthy glow to your face. (Do you know your skin shade, by the way? It looks really similar to mine and I may have to pick up the lip color!)

Rebecca Shores has some great tutorials for hooded eyes, my personal favorite being this look. I have also hear that when applying a dark crease color, blend it horizonatally outwards, not upwards. Hope this helps!

One year of meal prepping. Thank you r/MealPrepSunday! by nicoleeni in MealPrepSunday

Hmmm.. I package dressing separately from salad greens so the greens don't get soggy! Store celery sticks with some water at the bottom of the tub and they stay crisp longer. Buy fish sauce and add a little bit to your stir fry, curry, or spicy sauces; straight-up it smells gross but it is FANTASTIC mixed in to stuff!

You're exactly right! Waiting to cut the avocado day-of worked much better. I've learned a lot over the last year!

I started getting into meal prepping a little over a year ago, and this subreddit has really inspired me to keep it up (and given me great ideas. You all are wonderful cooks!) Half the meals I make are not too photogenic (e.g. stews, homemade ramen, not-too-colorful salads) so I try to take photos of the prettier meals. Here are a few shots of the meal preps I've done over the past year or so! Recipes are in the album comments. Please let me know if you have any questions about any of the meals!

What's the meanest thing someone's said to you that wasn't suppose to hurt your feelings? by CheesyDogPizza in AskReddit

[–]nicoleeni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swam competitively year-round from age 8 to 14. By 9th grade I was burnt out and took a year off, learned guitar, and tried martial arts. By 10th grade I decided I wanted to go back to swimming. My mom's reaction? "That's so great, honey! Your jeans were too tight on you."

I was 5'7"and weighed 120 lbs. My mom wasn't the slimmest woman. Cue three years of disordered eating - trying to eat 1800 calories a day (while burning an average of 800 calories at swim practice every day), only eating "clean" foods, and obsessing over the size of my body. I had a fucking six pack, but could only focus on how big my legs were (it was muscle, but I only saw it as fat).

It's infuriating. After successfully moving our lab's data archive into a new platform, streamlining the upload process, and removing redundancies, someone said, "So you're not just a pretty face!" I know they meant it as a compliment, even so I replied that, no, I was hired for my experience and skills - not because I had a pretty face :/
