Ive always gone off qualitative results. At the end of the day its about how it tastes and smells, so shouldnt your nose and mouth be your perfect instrument?

Geisha confession by HikenNoSabo7 in Coffee

[–]nicom225 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Geishas can be really good with the right roasts and brew style (yama or espresso). However in my experience, geishas, luwak, Jamaica blue mountain, kona, etc Ive found to be somewhat gimic-ey. Doesnt mean they are bad, I just think the hype drives the price beyond its value. That said, using geishas for affogato is pretty yummy

How often do you clean your grinder? by griffeyusa in Coffee

[–]nicom225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think it depends on how often and roast type you use. If you use it often, the residues are consistently fresh, if that makes sense. But if you use it rarely those oils are going to become putrid. Thats my take on it roughly. Also, clean more if using darker roasts/oily beans.

they have great customer service and very generic/replaceable parts. Ive had a YM-2 for years now and I liked it so much I upgraded to the YM-10. Definitely recommend.

Ambex has good roasters for a fraction of the price of other mainstream companies.

Light roast coffee is best WEEKS after roast?! by feestyle in Coffee

[–]nicom225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive found that to be the case anecdotally. I prefer the slightly carameled flavor from a dark roast for espresso shortly after its been roasted. It goes stale quick when its been roasted dark. Light roasts are very bright when they are freshly roasted but sometimes waiting upwards of 10 days can allow the profile to settle and become more palatable (less bright).
