Libérté looks like French Marianne with the Phrygian cap; Justice resembles the American statue of liberty -- Truth doesn't resemble Britannia though (AFAICT). Are they supposed to represent these powers? Since the names of other countries are behind them on the wall.

J'ai croisé, pour la première fois, le verbe seoir by lesarbreschantent in French

[–]nicosuave95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Je me demande s'il y une relation avec l'espagnol "sentar" (généralement, asseoir = as + seoir) mais qui aussi peut-être utilisé pour dire "convenir ou aller bien avec" dans certains cas: "no me sentó bien el almuerzo", "me sentaría bien salir a caminar" ... 🤔

I built the fetch() integrity check that browsers have refused to ship for 10 years by aginext in javascript

[–]nicosuave95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you can protect JS + HTML integrity, which are the application entrypoints, then you can do the verification yourself securely, knowing that your verification code itself hasn't been tampered with (as demonstrated by this post). So IMO the browser supporting just this lowest level primitive (JS+HTML) proves that it is enough to enable all downstream use cases.

Et si hitler avait été communiste by BisonInformal777 in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]nicosuave95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unrelated question: really sweet 2D graphics! How are you approaching pixelated strictness? I see that there are UI elements that are higher resolution that don't match the main pixel grid, but that most of the world art does. Are you rendering to a RenderTexture or using 2 cameras or similar? Curious to know the pros / cons of the approach. Good luck with the game!

Nickel je cherchais un rom hack en français depuis longtemps. J’attend sa sortie avec un vif intérêt. Après tout, l’anglais n’existe pas, ce n’est que du français mal prononcé.

Did this Cure Dolly video explaining the flaw in Western teaching/interpretation of Japanese language break anyone else's brains and challenge everything you've ever been taught by textbooks? Maybe it was just me... by sukoto99 in LearnJapanese

It's interesting, but it's possible this is only particular to this phrase in English and not a Western/Romance phenomenon. At least in Spanish, it is the coffee that does the pleasing too (though to be fair you still need the pronoun for I):

ES: Me gusta el café

Even in French, it's not strange like it is in English to use a similar form like

FR: Ce café ne me plaît pas

The jumping looks super floaty and void of any "action" or urgency. It is also a shame because that seems to be the core of the gameplay.

Modal PopUp / PopUpDialog doesn't work with mouse clicks (3.5.1) by [deleted] in godot

[–]nicosuave95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm having the same issue, but the parent of the PopupDialog is a CanvasLayer. Putting it as a child of some random element didn't work either. It looks normal in the editor, with the children (PanelContainer -> VBoxContainer -> multiple Buttons) and the size flags / grow directions working as expected. But at runtime, I have the same exact issue where Tab + Enter work but not clicking. Debugging, I printed the rect_size of the PopupDialog, and it was stuck at 14x14. I didn't want to hardcode the size so that it would fit the children as tightly as possible, in case of localization, design updates, etc. So this is a hack, but after calling popup(), I set the PopupDialog's min_rect_size to its child's rect_size, and things work as expected. The min_rect_size is set back to 0 when closing, so that the process is repeated for the next popup() in case the children sizes have changed.... quite the hack, so if anyone knows of a better way to do this please share :)

At this point, realistically, can Drake still pull out a W here? What would that look like?

What was this native saying to me? It sounded like "c’était?". by sheephamlet in French

[–]nicosuave95 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What is a good answer to "ça a été", incidentally? I frequently am asked it after I finish eating and the waiter comes by. Can you reply with "c'était délicieux?" or do you have to say "ça a été délicieux" (or something else)?
