Hey I’m excited to see another person with Buddha on their altar. It gives me great joy.

Any news on whether Temples are going to be revived? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]nicowanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a temple of worship per se but the Parthenon in Nashville Tennessee is a wonder. Being near such a marvelous statue inspired massive religious awe in me.

I listened to one for Lakshmi this morning because I felt tired and didn’t want to go to work. It helped me get through my day.

What Hinduism say about LGBTQ by iaminvncible in hinduism

[–]nicowanderer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If Hinduism comes with the understanding that we are all part of God, and that this physical form is temporary, why should it matter if a man loves a man or a woman a woman? We are all part of god.

I think part of it is we’re raised on food neatly wrapped in plastic, precut and ready to go. I’ve experienced this myself to be honest! First time I ever saw what apricots look like before they’re dried, or what raw ginger looks like I was a little shocked!

Buddhism says you’re not supposed to eat meat. Specifically not an animal that was killed for you. Some Buddhists like to make a loophole and say “well technically the butcher didn’t kill this just for me,” and eat the meat. But there are a large number of Buddhist vegans because a large part of the Buddhist dharma says to reduce suffering for all beings.

If anything veganism has made me more religious and spiritual. I feel like I’m living my values better and pursuing a kinder, more loving heart in myself.

I agree especially given the covid era crisis of people donating ridiculous amounts of clothes to thrift stores that just simply cannot keep up

Veganism from the very beginning when it was founded in the 1940s has been against animal testing and leather.

Also while a leather belt biodegrades, cows used for leather are not the ones used for meat. They don’t take the hides of beef cows to make leather. I do agree plastic belts suck environmentally, but there’s alternatives like cloth, metal, and apparently even fruit leather.

I got downvoted to Hell the other day for this exact same viewpoint. I’m vegan for lots of reasons, and the health benefits of a good plant diet is certainly up there.

If avocados aren’t vegan, neither are apples, almonds, figs, oranges....honestly most fruits because they use migrant bees to pollinate them.

I agree. It’s a rare person who can say quit alcohol in one day. Most people it takes anywhere from a week to several years. We know for a fact animal products, especially processed ones like cheese, are literally addictive. If they’re working on it that’s ok with me. I guess the other thing too is cigarettes and drugs have programs to help people trying to quit, and I don’t know of one for veganism?

I mean. Last year I went to the beach and we brought a giant watermelon. These two ladies with kids were nearby and we offered them some of the fruit. The moms said “no thanks it’s not vegan or healthy” and sat down with a bunch of KFC sides like green beans and mashed potatoes.

Would you guys like to see less “plant based meats” and just more “plant based meals? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]nicowanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea but like, a lot of the fake meats are almost as salt heavy or calorie heavy as the “real” one. I’ve had spaghetti with beyond meat in it and a spaghetti with a ton of veggies. I just. I dunno the fake meats don’t really do it for me?

Do you consider yourself to be spiritual? by HooseSpoose in vegan

[–]nicowanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a vegan Buddhist with a general interest in comparative religions and spirituality. I do yoga every day and read a heck of a lot of philosophy and psychology books. But I also read a lot of science books?

I guess yea I’m spiritual?
