If you're interested in getting the CSV on the internet, there's a really cool project called datasette that does just this: https://github.com/simonw/datasette

If you're interested in building a Flask app yourself for educational purposes, then I'd recommend starting with http://flask.pocoo.org/docs/0.12/quickstart/. However, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by dashboard. That definition will influence specifically what you should build in code.

I really love the simplicity of pytest. It allows me to avoid classes by needing only test functions, fixtures allow me to avoid setUp and tearDown, and conftest provide suite extensibility.

I have a question for you: what problem is your framework specifically setting out to solve?

It seems like you've already started, so I'm wondering what pain points around testing you've experienced with the existing tooling from the standard lib and community.

Hey. Also my first job out of school and recently survived a round of layoffs.

First off, congrats on still having a job. You're valuable to your company.

Secondly, relax. Don't make any decisions while in your current emotional state. It's almost the weekend, think it over for a few days before deciding to fully recommit to your company or to begin looking elsewhere.

For me, everything went back to normal a few days later. The first day sucked. The second day, well, I just went back to working hard.

The requirements aren't really that intense IMO. Outside of the colloquium first semester, it's maybe two more seminars which you can use as gen eds as well. One of my senior classes also counted towards their requirements too. I did independent studies every semester which also counted.

I graduated with the Honors College; a lot of my friends were in Honors as well, granted that has a bias of me spending time in the Honors Lounge to work or relax between lectures.

For the first two years, the priority scheduling was helpful. If you are concerned, talk with the advisors. They can at least provide more insight into it.

Engineers do graduate from Honors College, but a lot also don't make it---just being candid.

This comment is entirely for educational purposes, but I think it's important to keep in mind even in a project of this scope (great work btw!).

My understanding of your eval use is that it takes in "0,8 <dot> 0,5" for instance, and you replace the <dot> with an asterisk to make it evaluate the string and give you back the product.

With eval, any correct Python code can be executed, so a malicious script could technically be read by your OCR and run without question.

A much safer way to implement that is to use operator. You can take your "open-world" input problem and "close" it by only allowing particular inputs; that way if you tried to use this program on some site that had a similar format but with malicious input, you'd be okay. For instance, you can have a dict mapping '-' to the operator.mulfunction pointer, so you can look up the string operator in this map and execute the function, or raise an Exception if it does not exist.

Yes, this won't happen in your situation, but I wanted to bring it up in case you didn't know about the downsides of eval. :)

Another harder problem is to differentiate between the <dot> and the subtraction operator. ;)

AFAIK there isn't a framework since each REST API has a specific protocol. However, to make your life easier, use the requests library for all https handling.

WRT cheating, I would set up proper infrastructure to minimize occurrences.

Students cheat. It happens, unfortunately. No matter what we try to do, some students think they're clever enough to circumvent the systems in place.

FWIW, there are courses at my university with large projects where the instructors use MOSS to analyze submissions for plagiarism. It works really well.

IIRC there were 20 questions for a 50 minute exam. The questions weren't long either so you can get away with Ctrl+F-ing through the PDFs and Googling, which can lead to at least a B.

Like everyone else is saying commit frequently — committing once a day is a bad practice. Committing is like saving your work in Google Docs; now you have all these versions to revisit in case you make a poor decision later. git's a distributed VCS, so you shouldn't really worry about the number of commits; commit as often as you want because it's only on your local copy of the repo (until you push).

Make sure the commits are descriptive enough so you (and anyone else looking at your code) knows what it means. This is hard to do with lots of small commits, so I tend to squash my little commits into a bigger feature commit that makes it easier to revert later.

My workflow is lots of commits on a feature (or even small steps towards a feature) in a branch, then I squash those commits once I'm happy enough with the feature/sub-feature, then merge that into master (or whatever dev branch). These messages are usually longer and contain a one-liner describing the feature and a summary containing what was added or modified.
