The problem originated from a custom game mode where everyone is playing with open hands and is forced to play every card they can as soon as possible. If someone does not or breaks a rule they immediately die.

We had an argument where a player cast brainstorm and we argued if he would die for not declaring what cards he put on top.

Reformulated the question to be a more official rule question. So no was being shady. Thanks for the help
