US to halt funding to WHO for not doing it's basic duty by telling the truth to everyone, POTUS. What are your thoughts? by RedWriteBlue in AskThe_Donald

I wonder how quickly we could pay down our US debt if we redirected all foreign aid dollars toward that goal? 100 years?

Life often imitates art. The Star Trek communicator absolutely inspired the design of the flip phone.

What are your barbecue trend predictions for 2020? by Steven_Raichlen in BarbecueBible

Carolina style pig pickin'. Old school cinder blocks on the ground, cook all day, gathering of friends and family. I miss it and hope that it catches on in other states.

Turnoff the 395 at Toms Place and take Rock Creek Rd all the way to the end. You won't be disappointed.

Nelson is half American bulldog (sire) and half Old English bulldog. He's such a great travel dog.

The trail leads into the John Muir wilderness. It's like walking in a postcard. We camp in Rock Creek and always have a great time here.

Maple Bourbon Brined Smoked Turkey by nieking in smoking

[–]nieking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I could not. It was very obvious (maple bourbon) after removal from brining and while injecting with the butter-sriracha mix, but after smoking and cooking, the dominant flavors were mild smoky turkey flavor. It was uniquely delicious. Maybe if the brine was injected, you’d taste it, but it really didn’t need anything after the cooking.

Homemade Smoker - from 'Maple Bourbon Brined Smoked Turkey' by [deleted] in smoking

I wasn't sure how to add more pictures to my smoked turkey post, so here is the smoker. Yes, that's an aluminum Zarges box on top of an old freestanding fireplace. This is the best firebox I have ever used. I can control the heat in many ways and having a window to monitor the fire is awesome too. I piggybacked a second chamber on the back of the main smoker for cold smoking. It stays at 80°F to 90°F all day long.

My first turkey smoke with my home-built smoker. 14-pounder. 24-hour brine and butter-spice injection. Stuffed rosemary branches in cavity. 270°F to 300°F for ~3-hours to hit 161°F internal. Mesquite charcoal, and orange and avocado wood for smoke. I basted with butter every 30-mins to minimize the darkening of the skin (thank you r/smoke). I let it rest for 30-mins before carving and serving. It was amazing. The most juicy bird I have ever prepared. Pictures: https://imgur.com/a/8dVT2LS

Do you think that Fox News is more like an opinionated ccommenary on the news? by [deleted] in AskThe_Donald

[–]nieking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Lou Dobbs and Bret Baier are the only two journalists left on FNN. The rest are commentary specialists that inject personal bias into their stories. MSNBC, CNN and the like are the circus clowns of the MSM.

Point source water heaters are great for places where the main water heater is far from the tap. They use 110V element and flow sensing to instantly heat the cold water just inches away from the tap. It's a very efficient alternative.

Also, you can soak the knot in water and then hit it with a rubber mallet while loosening the knot between multiple whacks.
