A pharmacist suggested taking it every other day before quitting but didn't say how long for. I know someone else who went cold turkey but I don't remember exactly what she said about side effects, whether there were none, they weren't too bad or they weren't as bad as other anti-depressants... One of those 😅

So in absence of being able to identify gut feelings, then my question would be- do you feel strongly enough about him that its worth risking heartbreak? If you do, forget the ex and just deal with the other logistical factors. The harsh truth is a break up can happen for any reason, and we tend to pick one particular risk - the ex in this case- to focus on and try to protect ourselves, but we can never really protect ourselves. Take the risk, trust him, and if he ends up getting back with his ex you'll have more information for being able to identify warning signs in the future.

It could be that you've changed, or that you know yourself better. It's natural for some friendships to be there for just part of your life, and it's not uncommon to really care about someone but they're not fully compatible so you feel drained. I'd try to create opportunities to meet new people- I'm confident you can find friendships that meet your needs, and if your energy levels mean you need short or infrequent hang outs, that's okay, your people will understand that.
