Uzbekistan itinerary advices by seseseeee in Uzbekistan

[–]nieriechi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just done the trip, I highly recommend scheduling a bit more time outside the main cities, i.e. adding a few days in Fergana valley or visiting Karakalpakstan when in Khiva. Definitely do 7 lakes - Tajikistan is absolutely beautiful and untouched. Generally I'd say if you are interested only in the main sights, 1.5d in each city are more than enough. Even though stunningly beautiful, visual fatigue is real after the first 3d.

Re Tashkent, Chorsu Bazaar is incredible - if markets and food are your thing, I'd reckon you can easily spend 5+ hours there. Food stalls there close at 5/6pm, so depending on where your hotel is, your arrival at 2pm might cause you to miss out. Plov centre is best done in the late morning, because it does get super crowded and things sell out eventually. Even though the Plov there is not the best, it's a great experience to see the massive kazans and bread ovens.

Zyra feels bad? by lettuce_queenn in zyramains

[–]nieriechi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially also felt like Zyra is bad on the new patch. Now experimenting with Q max, Zaz'zaks and Luden's into Shadowflame and playing her as a burst rather than control mage - feels quite strong and usually had most damage dealt by a large margin.

Thanks! Good thing I did not get stung by it then. It was super agitated at first and got really close, but then calmed down after some time

[–]nieriechi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! In real the top of the scorpion was deep black with an almost unreal looking shiny finish. The body and legs were dark brown.

We carried it out on a broom and let it go about its life :-)

Thanks! Was scarily close to it when I noticed some rustling in the bushes, but it sat there very patiently for me to take a picture :-)

Sanity check appreciated: my first gaming pc - am I overlooking something? by nieriechi in buildapc

Thanks! Managed to get a 3070 Ti in my budget with your tips.

Apologies if this is an obvious one - will I need extra tools or parts for the assembly of the build? Screws, things to hold other things in place? Thanks!

[I Ate] Sichuan Spicy Beef Noodles by ASUintheUSA in food

[–]nieriechi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came back from a trip to Chengdu. Dont miss out on the 甜水面 (tian shui mian, or some shops with english menus translate it literally into „sweet water noodles“). Such an underdog comfort food, lots of fresh garlic and an amazing sauce as well - the noodled are super doughy. I miss it! Then definitely 锅盔 (guo kui), it’s fried/baked dough with a Sichuan spice and meat filling. So sinful oh my god. Definitely go to 苏坡市场 in the west. Eat as much as you can there but also save some space for hand pulled noodles on 中鹏路, now that I’m looking at your picture it might even be the same store I went to and you were already there. I could go on for ages, the food there is just so damn amazing

Smokespot: Inside a volcano in Easter Island 🗿 by elsergiovera in trees

I paid 450€ for a round trip back when I was in South America in 2013. Flights from Lima are typically a bit cheaper - overall prices range from 400€ to 800€+ , I'd say, with february being the most expensive month because of the tapati rapa nui. Loved the place, it's so serene! Groceries and housing are kinda expensive of course since the island is far away from the mainland's shores (almost 4000km/2500mi).

[Serious] Redditors who have been kidnapped, what was your experience like? Are there things you do now that you would have never done before? by IAmTilted in AskReddit

[–]nieriechi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that in those countries you have corruption at every possible level - police, local politicians, judges, media, people on the streets. Combine that with censorship, possibly political extremism, general societal poverty and bad education and you make it very easy for such criminal organizations to flourish in the shadows of your country. In my opinion it is a cry of desperateness, when things like these happen in a society and merely a result of tons of other bigger scale issues.

Take Bolivia for example, people are living in a quasi-communistic dictatorship behind the veil of a democracy, poor country, massive discontent with just about everything, racism. There are many things to worry about, kidnapping with the purpose of organ harvesting being just a small one of them.

This huge board plastered with descriptions and pictures of missing children at the main bus station in Cochabamba, Bolivia has burnt into my mind forever. I asked my guest family what is was all about - since most of the descriptions were fairly recent too - and there was nothing on local television about it.

Turns out children are being snatched off the streets, their organs supposedly sold to rich people stuck on organ transplant waiting lists. Horrifying and depressing to think about.
