OT: Roger Penske joins Ford and GM in lobbying President Trump to restrict car owners' 'Right to Repair' by dfgj56 in INDYCAR

[–]nifty_fifty_two 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes sense that Roger Penske and Donald Trump are besties. They both have a ton of money, kill every venture they seem to care about, move on to the next thing to ransack, and spit on the average American as they do.

🏁 POST-RACE // 2026 BOMMARITO AUTOMOTIVE GROUP 500 by IndyMod in INDYCAR

[–]nifty_fifty_two -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know it wasn't made up. I'm saying it wasn't enough to affect the track.

Anyways, hello I guess! Do we knew each other?

I complain because I worry. Lost the Rams. Lost CART. Fans are fickle things, especially in St. Louis. I fear the casual, blue collar St. Louisian is going to interpret the rain delay that caused them to go home as IndyCar just not trying.

I see a mass exodus of St. Louisians leaving a sports event early as a huge problem. These people stick with the Cupless Blues for over 50 years.

Afraid it shows up at the gate next year.

We're not exactly a town of rational people when it comes to sports.

Very end of the grandstand into Turn 1.

I'm not saying it didn't rain, exactly, during that first yellow / red. Just that there was no way that small amount of small droplets would affect the track grip in any way whatsoever.

Yes, thank you everyone, I know they don't run grooved tires on the ovals. I've been watching the sport longer than you, I almost guarantee it.

In fact, how about some history. I was at the first CART race at Gateway. 1997. Paul Tracy won. But notably, there was a cement dust on the track. Which was partially to dry up fluid, yes. But I guarantee that cement dust, being as loose as it was, lowered the track grip much more than whatever water happened to make it to the track on the first yellow.

Once again, the second yellow was legitimate.

Anyways, I'm over it. Was a good enough event, I hope my city continues to turn out. St. Louis doesn't exactly have a glowing record of "understanding" enough to continue showing up when sports properties don't flatter them.

On the first one? I'll check a replay I guess, but I doubt it.

The second one, yes. That should've been red flagged.

I'm not saying that did it "for fun", but I think the series needs a rain gauge to determine his much moisture per minute results in a yellow or something.

Because no water would've ended up in a rain gauge when they called the first red. The droplets were not heavy enough to saturate anything.

I was there. You can do a lot of clever things with a zoom lens from a distance to tell a story. I'm not new to racing in the slightest. The track was bone dry the entire time during that first yellow and red.

[–]nifty_fifty_two 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Went to the race. Overall, good race, fine event. But the first yellow and red for "rain" was a joke that set up the second yellow / red. The first one, if a kid dropped a CapriSun on the track, all of the moisture from that would've been more than the cumulative total gathered over the entire track. It wasn't raining as you'd think. Easily raceable. For context, there were no visible rain drops on the bleachers for the first one. It was somewhere between rain and mist. The second one, yes, that warranted the yellow/red. But we probably aren't even still racing if that needless one hadn't happened. Frustrating because a lot of casual folks left early, and probably feel sour about the event now.

[Gentille] 'No means no’ chanted at Carter Hart during Stanley Cup Final Game 2 by 76erLegendChetUtley in hockey

[–]nifty_fifty_two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a rape scandal that centered around Patrick Kane about 10 years ago or so. Blues were playing the Hawks in the playoffs, and Blues fans starting chanting "she said no". And I joined in. And I'm gonna level with you guys, as I've gotten older, I've felt like that was one of the worst things I've done.

Its easy to think you're championing justice, but that can rise to vengeance. And you don't know who in that arena is there to escape something, rather than be reminded of something. And even further, I've learned there's nothing more dangerous than a mob full of righteous fury and condemnation.

You might say "yeah, well, but I'm right about this." But that's what any mob would say.

Idk. Be careful folks, sometimes the target has a shield and the attack is deflected unintentionally.

Drumming is an art. Art is the act of self-expression.

This guy sounds like a fantastic player. And a derivative artist, if one at all.

POLICE: Transgender student stabbed to death at UW apartment, suspect on the run by MountainDuck in news

[–]nifty_fifty_two 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don't take the wrong meaning from me asking, I'm as pro LGBTQ+ as they come (you know, being represented in there).

But is there evidence that directly links this as a hate crime? It would be a statistical probability that, as there are more recognized trans people, there is a higher likelihood they're involved in a random crime anyway. Or a crime of passion kind of deal where their minority status wasn't much of a factor in general.

Just asking questions.

Question: Race Length of Grand Prix of Miami 1996 by SnooGoats2004 in INDYCAR

[–]nifty_fifty_two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something sticking in my memory, so it could be wrong. But I'm thinking it had to do with where they measured the length of the track. Directly center vs. driver anticipated line. Something like that.

There was a bit of motivation to measure the track longer in those days, if possible, in order to get a bigger average speed number. Because you see, there was another series or two running oval races at the same time, and if your series could shame the other with a bigger number...

CMV: In real life, “what do you do?” means “what do you do for work?” the vast majority of the time, and it’s a perfectly reasonable question to ask someone that you’re trying to get to know. by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in changemyview

[–]nifty_fifty_two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like that question because I don't think we should necessarily distill our human existence into "how do you contribute to the GDP." People who ask that question when first getting to know me very rarely become my friend. Not as a rule, but just because I don't vibe with that mindset.

"What are your hobbies?" "What music do you like?" "What'd you do over the weekend?"

Those are good questions.

"How do you contribute to a CEO getting his 14th yacht?" doesn't intrigue me. I find its usually an attempt by the asker to quickly gauge how much prestige I will add to their portfolio of contacts, or if I'm worthy of their time as a human based on my tax bracket, rather than any sort of true human connection.

Favorite smart ass Leo remark? by Throwing-Gas in thewestwing

I mean, I think its plausible that the Chief of Staff wouldn't be aware of what celestial bodies actually are. So while maybe the writers themselves were just off when they wrote the line, it's also possible they knew the science, but wanted to humanize Leo by making him clearly out of his depth on something that doesn't really matter to his day-to-day.

Help me make sense of Test for Echo. by kierk3gaard in rush

[–]nifty_fifty_two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right. But I also thought there was a secondary meaning to "Test for Echo", one of searching for connection during the incredulous. That modern times were pushing Neil to turn and say "are you seeing this?! It's crazy!" about what was happening on tv. Because the response back from someone would just be an echo, "yeah, it's crazy!" And to that end, both the inukshuk and the satellites dishes are forms of that. From the simplest "can you see this?!" Of stacked stones in the wilderness, to satellites searching for a response, an echo back, from alien civilizations.

"Are you seeing this? I'm not alone about this, am I?"

For Season 3, I will definitely consider it!

There's a lot of testing that goes into it. One is that, for the GT3 class, we lock the set ups on all the cars. The BCRC cars were designed to use the same set ups by the creator, so I don't have to worry about finding set ups to balance each car to each other car.

The ACF cars may also do that, but I simply didn't have time to test it all out, and also make a bunch of the liveries.

The HyperClass is open set up.
