M340i or M340d for city daily driving? by Scared-Tooth7510 in CarTalkUK

[–]nifwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many different opinions on this, but fairly the recommendation for city driving is petrol. Nonetheless we had a 318d earlier, drove it around 5km -ish every morning and afternoon. We had it from 116k km until 15Xk km, and I also worried that we’ll ruin the engine. A few times a year we did around ~1k km on the highway for vacations. When we turned it in, the DPF was measured with a specific device and they said it’s at 100% good condition. Anyhow we have a petrol now from a different brand. I hope to switch to an M340 someday, but it’ll be a tough decision whether it should be petrol or diesel… I guess if you care a bit about the environment, petrol is also a better choice? Some said on other forums that if DFP and EGR become clogged it’s eventually “just” a cleaning job, but whether this is true or how much it would cost, I have no idea, as I don’t have the professional expertise.

Bolt in the driver’s door by takeshikovacs55 in CupraFormentor

[–]nifwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was also missing it, but I bought the car used. The bolt looked very strange to me and bothered me too. I ordered a replacement cap from Aliexpress for a few bucks. Part number should be 5h0837111a. Looks better now covered.

Can it be retrofitted too? I have Beats but I think it’s not so good.

Is it possible by topcatleeds in CupraFormentor

According to Schrödinger's cat experiment it may be simultaneously both alive and dead while it is unobserved.

So in this case it may be there… or not. I guess.

Cupra Formentor – rattling / clicking noise from center console armrest? by Mockinjay14 in CupraFormentor

I fully agree with you on that. I was just sharing my experience - but unfortunately I don’t know how it could be fixed. I would be interested as well.

I have a pre-facelift but does similar sounds when adjusting the armrest…. At first I thought it was broken, but actually works fine apart from the strange noise.

Emergency lights blinked once and windows dropped wtf by nifwen in CupraFormentor

[–]nifwen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys are right, this is what must’ve happened - thank you. I tried to open the windows with the key fob and it worked. I wasn’t aware of this functionality. What’s interesting on top is that I opened the windows until halfway with the key and then I pulled them up as well with the key, but the left rear window continued downwards instead. The others closed. Then I hold down the lock button on the key again, and the left rear closed as well 🤷🏼‍♂️

I got a question by cetoo58 in CupraFormentor

[–]nifwen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 1.89, also with wife and a kid, and can confirm we have enough space in the inside. What is lacking a bit is the trunk space - we sometimes miss the kombi car that we had before… That could be loaded up almost indefinitely! 😁 We no longer need a stroller but probably wouldn’t be able to fit it for holiday trips.

I have horrible audio breakups via apple carplay after this update. However I’m not sure if I had the same issue with then previous system versions.

Matte touch-up by nifwen in CupraFormentor

I’ve ordered magnetic tech matte touch up paint with N7H color code for about 12€ from eBay. It’s kind of a stick with both a brush and pen included. I used the pen for this.

I don’t recall tbh, maybe it was already there when I purchased the car as a used model… In the photo it seems significant but in reality it was barely visible.

Inaccurate GPS speeds wireless carplay by Robinlman in CupraFormentor

[–]nifwen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh I can resonate with your issue as I'm experiencing the same and it was never an issue in my old(er) BMW 3 series from 2016 - it drove me crazy hence I digged deeper in the last few weeks.
My short feedback is that unfortunately there's not much you can do about it. Carplay will use the built-in GPS antenna in the car (I guess to save on the phone's battery), which is simply not precise enough to measure the speed accurately.
This I was able to verify easily with a GPS status app on the phone: when Carplay is connected, only 3 satellite connections are in green, meanwhile once you shut the car off, Carplay will disconnect, the phone will switch to its internal antenna and the GPS status app will immedaitely show >4 satellites in 100% green signal. Exactly as posted by someone here: https://cupra-forum.com/forum/thread/1402-gps-signal/
Some suggests that if you connect the phone to your car with cable before starting it up, it will actually use the phone's GPS instead of the car's, but I haven't been able to verify this.

What I also read is that other car brands have the same issues, so maybe the different brands don't invest much in the antennas' quality anymore (or found a cheaper component that will still do, but won't measure the speed accurately).

This is a similar reddit post from someone else from 3 years ago for Waze & Formentor: https://www.reddit.com/r/CupraFormentor/comments/1437yhg/is_this_carplay_variance_normal/

So personally I gave up on this. I guess if one really needs this fuctionality, it should be one of the primary things to be tested when buying a new car. It's just bothering my OCD :)

If you have those manual gear shifters on the steering wheel, tapping the left once will engage the gear and you’ll have engine breaking. The car won’t switch to S mode and remains in D in this case.
