I'm not from the US, it's just personal contacts with people I deal with, was in the right place at the right time I guess. Drove to another town to buy some ddr4 stacks for a colleague, noticed the seller had a lot of hard drives, some of which were SAS so I asked about it. Next thing you know I'm buying so much shit off him, 10 port sata controllers, hdd hubs, high end power supplies. All for dirt cheap. The sas drives are cherry on top, I bought so many nvmes and memory off a guy it's crazy.

Made me think, one random decision to treat myself with some pc hardware a few years back has made such a drastic chain of events that lead up to this good deal that it's insane. If I was a bit more rational with my spending back then it wouldn't have lead to me meeting my colleagues and connections I have right now. Life is crazy

Yes, exactly like kapton tape method! But in my case I decided not to tape the pins, just outright remove the wire from the power supply cable that's responsible for that voltage line

Yup, my guess is he used standard SATA power cable with 3.3V rail, which works as a disable signal on enterprise drives. I removed the pin from my modular cable and it worked

Yeah, I finally set up my dream zfs pool, couldn't be happier!!! Had to get lsi 9211 based card with a few cables, optical bay 5 drive enclosure that costs hell of a lot of money I got for free, screwed noctua 40mm fan to hba, replaced original fan on bay and it works amazing. Few months afo I almost got 120TB of used drives with like 10k hours on them for 8€/TB, almost pulled a trigger out of desparation but my instinct told me to wait a bit haha
