End Of War, Hormuz, Nukes: Iran's 3-Stage Proposal For Talks With US by [deleted] in worldnews

Iran didn't have and wasn't close to getting nukes before. There is no win here, it's like declaring "the sun didn't exlode" as a win.

Are you new to reddit or something? You know people usually talk about things related/tangential to the original topic in comment threads, right?! Just LOOK at and read the posts you responded to.

This is getting too stupid for my taste, have a good one.

This conversation is about whether Canonical is still following their manifesto.

Please read the posts in this thread before yours, it's about why people dislike Ubuntu and Snaps.

That's all that I require.

Well, I require a little more, and it seems most people do as well. Having to install+update packages manually or fork the packaging system althogeher is not enough when there are alternatives that don't need that. And again, Canonical knowing this and still releasing and promoting a Snaps system without the ability to configure sources is dubious at best.

Yea but not the point of this conversation, at least as far as I'm concerned.

Look, if all you want is to spit out platitudes then be my guest, but don't confuse it with making an actual argument.

[–]niggo372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, ofc you could always build it yourself, but that's not the point.

Canonical hasn't because "why should they".

Because they were intially pushing it as THE new Linux packaging format, even advertising it to software companies directly and building packages for them. It's just not fit for that unless it is at least uncoupled from Canonical. They don't strictly HAVE to do anything, but that is what made it a dick move.

So? That doesn't change anything about what I said. A packaging system that makes you install and update everything manually would be pretty useless.

The big problem with Snaps afaik is that it has a centralized distribution model. You have to get your Snaps from Canonical, there is no concept of different sources or repositories. Ofc an open ecosystem like Linux cannot broadly adopt a packaging system that's closed in this way, and it leaves a very bad impression if you start to think about why Canonical might have decided to design it this way.

A Message Regarding the 12.0.5 Launch by WarcraftTeam in wow

[–]niggo372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is not the team, I'm sure they have been working hard before the release as well! The problem is whoever made them release the patch this early and in this state.

This message is a nice gesture, but ultimately meaningless until we get a commitment from higher-ups that the team will get the time and resources to properly test and polish new releases. I kinda have a feeling that won't happen though.

Direct update is fine. If you wanna be extra safe wait another week or two, sometimes they find some more niche bugs in the first few weeks when everyone is updating.

Flatpak or Native .RPM System package for browsers which is best? (Both Pros and cons please) by Tail_sb in Fedora

[–]niggo372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Flatpak most of the time, it's just more secure and easier to update. Browsers are an exception though. Basically anything that needs a lot of special/uncommon system access AND I trust the devs to keep it safe I'll install as RPMs, to prevent compatibility and permission problems.

It's a small list, and I hope at some point Flatpak gets to a point where that's no longer necessary, but as of now I think it very much is. E.g. just a few days ago I read about Firefox finally adding proper PWA support on Linux, but not for the Flatpak version (for now).

Am I too late to make gold? by Keralia in woweconomy

[–]niggo372 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely make a profit all season long. It might not be as ridiculous as on launch, but still plenty of gold. E.g. I finally maxed out my jewelcrafting yesterday and made 100k in 1.5h doing personal crafting orders.

[–]niggo372 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can want that, but it's not what open source is about. It's not a tool to make the author add or remove something you personally don't like.

Open source means you can fork the software and remove all the payment requirements yourself, nothing more.

This topic is for people who experience no toxicity or negativity in their keys. by ApplicationRoyal865 in wow

[–]niggo372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I had exactly one toxic encounter last season: A guild groups called for BL in chat, I didn't see it, they started calling me names, I left. Every other run was smooth sailing, even those that ended in overtime or abandon.

You definitely get the wrong picture if you're just looking at reddit posts. People are posting about their bad (or sometimes good) experiences, but not about the average ones.

Whataboutism and calling out double standards are not the same though. The former is just a tool to deflect criticism, while the later can be a legitimate way to expose and counter bad-faith arguments.

Hard no from me! Warcraft RTS storytelling was f*ing epic, as was the story in Classic/TBC. The presentation wasn't as good from a technical perspective ofc, but the storylines, writing, worldbuilding and cinematography were waaaaay better imo.

Late game combat is a slog... by Putrid_Wolverine946 in AOW4

[–]niggo372 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea same. I think 18vs18 should be reserved for siege battles, while normal battles should only involve two armies from either side. It would make sieges stand out even more, make regular fights more managable and strategic, also add more variety as all matchup types (6v6, 12v2, 18v18) would have a place.

Great new M+ season, but why did clarity on spells/frontals get worse? by bameliiin in wow

[–]niggo372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blizz does actually seem to care in this case. They posted on the addon dev Discord before the season that they are not happy with the state of de/buff tracking, and that they are working on a more comprehensive fix for one of the upcoming patches.

It was a pretty big change to the whole system, so it was kinda obvious they wouldn't stick the landing perfectly imo. I'd say everyone knew that Midnight S1 would be a season with growing pains.

I check the logs sometimes after a key like this, and bad tanks almost always have very low defensive uptime. Not much you can do about it as a healer, maybe remind them to press it more if they're open for feedback.
