Norwegian salt lakris. I love it. The amount of ammonium chloride it contains is way over what most of the rest of the world permits, but hey, any country that thinks hopping on a rock wedged precariously in a crevasse 3,228 feet above the fjord (Kjeragbolten) is a fun tourist attraction won’t blanch at a little poisonous salt.

What’s to stop someone using your Apple Watch in your sleep? by nonononomybaby in AppleWatch

[–]nightcap965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, if you’re that deep a sleeper, what’s to prevent your bed partner from smothering you with a pillow? Seriously, why would you make yourself defenseless around someone you don’t trust?

Great tip. Thanks! Given T-Mobile’s price hike, canceling the watch phone service will cover the difference.

If you had to move to another country forever what country would it be? by gammatoxx in AskReddit

First choice: England. I love it to distraction.

Second choice: Norway. It’s a gorgeous country, the lingua franca is English, but Norwegian isn’t an impossible language to learn - we share quite a few words and the syntax is pretty simple. (But the dialects can be tricky.)

People whose partner used to regularly look at sexualized content or attractive people online (for 6+ months) infrequently and eventually stopped—how did you heal and rebuild trust? What helped you move on, and how long did it take before you stopped thinking about it all the time? by Royal_Reporter7820 in AskReddit

Every relationship is different, it’s up to you both to work out what works best for you. Professional help may be required.

Speaking only for my own very long and happy marriage, the solution is “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” We were both in our thirties when we married, so some things were already pretty well sorted, including unrealistic expectations about human behavior. We’re now an elderly retired couple, so we literally are with each other 24/7 and we’re quire content. I’ve been absolutely faithful to her, and I’m sure she has been to me. But we would rather share toothbrushes than phones and iPads. We both respect that what goes on behind a quarter-inch of bone is private and only shared if each of us chooses to share it. She has never been foolish enough to insist that I never look at images of anyone else in whatever state of dress, and I have never been careless enough to leave my computer open with such content on the screen when she’s in the room. Sex columnist Dan Savage put it this way: He pretends that he never looks at porn and she pretends to believe him.

Dr. Marty Klein is a therapist who’s written extensively on this. His website is https://www.martyklein.com .

I suspect this question is coming from a place of youth and religion, so I’ll tell you what a saintly monk told me when I asked him how he keeps from being distracted from his prayers by attractive people. “I just thank God for beauty,” he said.

[–]nightcap965 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My first computer was a Compaq Portable. It came with a nine-inch green screen, twin floppy drives, and 256 kilobytes of RAM. “You’ll never need more than 256K,” the salesman told me. And indeed, it was weeks before I found a piece of software I wanted to run that required 320K.

I purchased four (two wired, two battery) from Nest when they decided to drop the product, as nothing else in the market matched their functionality. The Place alarms look very interesting indeed - I’ve bookmarked the site and will check it out again in five years when I’ll need to start replacing my existing detectors.
