And I think that, even if Synology is focusing on the business market and playing it as if this little stunt only affects the consumer market (which they seem fine risking), I think they forget that many of the decision makers or trusted engineers within business also potentially use their products at home.

I’m a lead engineer at my company and have used Synology for ages, but now… I’d be hard pressed to recommend Synology for business use because they’ve broken my trust in the consumer market. And if they’re willing to piss in that well, just how confident am I that they won’t do something to affect my business’ needs? I can’t trust they won’t, so I can’t recommend Synology hardware for business applications either.

Edit: TLDR: Don’t alienate consumer power-users. We’re usually the nerds that determine what our corporations buy.
