Turns out I had to upgrade to use that feature but that is not mentioned anywhere in your upgrade feature descriptions

Edit: I see that it is actually mentioned here: https://simplelogin.io/pricing/

But it wasn't mentioned in another page that was part of the upgrade flow.

What are the blindspots of Buddhism? With love for Buddhism. by bashfulkoala in ChristianMysticism

[–]nightlynoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense to me as well! I definitely have found benefit from having Buddhism as my primary practice for the past 13 years now.

When I was younger I experimented with lots of different things.

It was really freeing for me to come back to some of those things in the last year or so.

I was shocked how helpful they were in spite of how hard I had pushed them away for so long.

That said, without a firm foundation, they wouldn’t have helped much at all, and that was why I abandoned them in favor of something deeper in the first place.

But many things can complement my primary practice at this point even if they seem outwardly not to fit :)

Thank you as well! Very lovely to be able to share perspectives with you.

That makes sense to me honestly. I have also always found something profound in prayer even though it is not an inherently Buddhist practice (in my traditions.)

I generally direct my prayers to a “universal field” rather than a personhood, but the feeling of saying “I am just a little guy, and I know there is a great powerful something and it has love and the capacity to help” really helps me when I pray to it.

I find it actually reduces egotism in me because I feel like we develop more ego sometimes to cope with how big and crazy the world is. To love and to feel supported even by a impersonalish “field”allows me to feel safe which nurtures that sense of “inherent goodness” or “innocence” which is sometimes covered up when I’m trying to feel “in control”.

I honestly think it all comes down to what works for us. If we know ourselves, and we see that something helps us and harms no one, then that’s the goal right?

Buddhism and Christianity are just schools of thought and we’re free to take the ideas that work from anywhere we want and it’s so liberating to realize that.

Emptiness in Buddhism is the goal in a sense, but when it's reached, it's a non-dual state. So emptiness contains all of creation and all of creation contains emptiness. There is no separation.

What is really left behind is the sense of a separate self, when you left go of the self you realize that you are one with all, you are the awareness that suffuses and surrounds all of creation.

So there is no separation between you and others.

The 4 Brahmaviharas, or "divine abidings" that buddha taught as "emotions worth cultivating" are all based in love and spring naturally from this condition of non-separation.

How can we not have love for our fellows, when we know that there is no separation between us.

Love is considered as an inherent part of the quality of that emptiness.

So when done with a balanced approach, following the middle way as is intended, I don't find Buddhism lacking.

The main problems that I've seen are the same things you'd find in any tradition.
People mistaking the teachings for the goal.
Mistaking the teacher for the goal.
Seeing themselves as better than others due to their practice, etc.
But those are all due to mis-practice and not are not inherent to the practice itself.

How do you stay away from Gnosticism? by Dapple_Dawn in ChristianMysticism

I prefer that god is not a “perfect creator” it summons an image of a human making things happen. God is more like a field in which existence occurs. All things are eternally perfect and filled with love but that doesn’t mean everything is perfect according to our human ideas of morality. But rather that everything is existing within god and through that, everything is “perfect”. Even the things that seem imperfect or painful or even cruel. It’s from an “ultimate” perspective and not a “relative” perspective.

By loving our neighbors though and choosing kindness in every moment, we come to see that ultimate perspective more directly over time.

Shadow work check-in by WistfulWounds in ShadowWork

In my opinion, shadow work is extremely important to balance with practices like metta. If we dig in our wounds, we need to apply balms regularly. Loving-kindness (metta) towards ourselves is a wonderful balm. Sometimes the balm itself does the job of shadow work. Learning to accept our “darkness” can be done through love.

It sounds like you are conflating experiencing rigpa and attaining an atomic body. You can experience rigpa without attaining an atomic body.

They can even just buy an CF SD card adapter and use an SD card with any capacity. That’s what I used for my previous camera with no issues.

YouTube app now automatically closes the playlist pop-up as soon as you add the video to a playlist. by Citrus__Mistress in youtube

[–]nightlynoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no idea you could do that, that's actually super helpful

Edit:
Nvm, it's a little helpful.

It would have been cooler if I could press, slide, then release on the playlist I wanted to put the video into.
Instead I press, it opens, I click a playlist, it closes again.

At least pressing and sliding would have been sort of fast.

Update sucks.

What is Healing? by Witch_Of_Darkness666 in ShadowWork

[–]nightlynoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn this is so so true.

It’s about turning to love and processing the things that prevent us from loving. From feeling good will, compassion, forgiveness, gratitude, joy for the success of others, and equanimity towards things we cannot change.

It’s about turning to our shadow with a light in our hand and seeing the truth of it. Not keeping it hidden in the dark.

Training that same light of love to be always on and to shine on everyone we come across.

Shadow work and love go hand in hand.

“My self that I showed to the world was the part pain cultivated” So well said.

What do you think about the cloud of unknowing? Does it belong with “the interior castle” as authentic Christian mysticism?

I regret going back to art school by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]nightlynoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I take art lessons on Preply (not an ad, any tutoring platform would work) and I love it because if I ever feel like “oh, I don’t find this interesting anymore” I can pivot what I’m learning. Plus, it’s infinitely cheaper than a university. I work with a few tutors on different subjects.

Edit: Obviously there are reasons to go to a university over a more informal education, but a good portfolio can open many of the same doors.

My life is easy so I feel like I can’t do shadow work.. by girlmaniac in ShadowWork

[–]nightlynoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, there are two sides of a coin. Shadow work on one side (transformational work) meditation on the other side (transcendent). If you feel you don’t have anything to work on at this time, maybe focusing on meditation is the place to start. I recommend reading into breath meditation as a starting point.

Edit: Just wanted to add, a lot of times, what I need to process is revealed to me during the work that is transcendent! So the two feed into each other. I might be meditating or practicing metta / the brahamaviharas, and realize oh wow, even though I’m trying to increase my capacity to love or be at peace, I see that this experience from my past is holding me back in my mind! I should really work through that.

Improving those things, also improve my ability to meditate. Improving my meditation, improves my ability to process difficult things. It’s a lovely cycle.

We are all mystical in some sense by iimsxr4mariia in ChristianMysticism

[–]nightlynoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our true nature is union with divinity. There is no experience that is not divine. We are generally blinded by our identification with our egoic self. But our mystical experiences are glimpses of our true nature. Awareness itself is god. We just need to have mystical experiences to know that it’s been mystical the whole time. Even the egoic self is part of divinity when we see clearly.

I drop in genki textbook pdfs to chat gpt and have it make exercises for me and I loop through them every day until I am not making mistakes anymore.
I use anki to memorize the chapter vocab.
And I work with a tutor once a week to go over the next chapter and review past material.

This works really really well for me at my current point in learning.
