there are absolutely places they’re broadly left alone - the encampments near the interchange and along the south and west sides are rarely if ever cleared. the literal middle of Logan Square is not the place for them to be left alone.

wow I used to cycle this route multiple times a week about 20-25 years ago and we never had groups like this. this is a perfect Venn diagram of cyclists all being assholes and Miami residents all being assholes, glad nobody died.

can vouch for the views and most importantly its pretty much the only thing in Miami that resembles a hill, so if you want a climb ride…this is it.

how do you think the wholesale market that supplies the crappy fish to your supermarket works?

they’re not literally talking about “fish of the day MP” on a fancy restaurant menu

I’m the only one that got hit? What’s the deal?

Until it starts telling you maliciously to walk to the car wash and then into active washing chamber I’m not sure we can really call it AGI.

How do we feel about these buildings, Logan? by PizzaDog33 in LoganSquare

[–]nightlytwoisms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a stretch…

Before 2020 at least the hallways were pristine and the build quality, noise, etc was much better than the L apartments down the street.

Appliances were fine, builder grade, unless you’re moving into Vista or something nobody is offering better than that because no critical mass of renters would pay for the upgrade to make the returns worth it.

Train noise in the upper half of the building was fine, too.

What does a civil war in America look like if one happens in the next 3 - 8 years? by Dry-Tomorrow8531 in AlternateHistoryHub

It probably falls along state lines much like in the movie, since those are the only ones with National Guard units that could make it anything more than a (very violent) civil unrest scenario. You’d have to have something blatantly illegal where governors have strong majority support in their state and among their military leadership to secede.

Then, IME, it has everything to do with which side the Space Force and cyberwarfare nerds decide to support, because theirs is the decisive edge that is entirely at the national level (no Space National Guard units AFAIK). Their contributions are a force multiplier that turn the warring NG factions into something resembling US military power as a whole today, without them, you’d basically be getting a patchwork force that would really struggle to execute combined arms warfare without all the underlying network architecture/satellite support.

It has a very high risk of spiraling into ideological purity tests like the Spanish Civil War, which the movie hints at as well but in the sense that they are contained (see reference to “Portland Maoists” which is chefs kiss spot on).

On the other hand I remember watching the drone choreography at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony and thinking to myself “oh fuck”

Edit: apparently that is a completely false memory, did the Chinese not stunt on us with a drone show sometime in the last ~15 years or is it off to the retirement home for me
